bad mpg?

I only seem to be getting 18 mpg in the city, and about 20-22 on the hwy. This seems much lower, that what others are reporting. Any tips on what i should do, to improve these figures? Where do i start?

The air filter is new, as i just got the intake not long ago. There is no exhaust leak, and I have not thrown any codes.

Should i do spark plugs? I am at about 90k miles. I have already done the timing belt and water pump change, several thousand miles ago.

Try replacing the fuel filter housing for the fuel pump, its one of those lifetime filters built into the housing, replaced mine at 75K miles and now im getting 30-40 moire miles on tank.

You could also try getting your car tuned.

the way you drive has a ton to do with it. If I beat on the car and shit at 4 or 5k i get horrible mpg. but if you take it easy your mpg will be much better.

Also you should check the air in your tires, that could throw it off as well.

Staying out of vtec is probably the best way to increase gas mileage.

I get like 23 mpg average, but I have seen up to 29mpg on a long highway trip.

Absolutely. Just don't take the car over 3k RPM, and you'll see you're mileage increase significantly. Only reason people get below 20mpg in the city is because they sit at stop lights/signs, and when they get going they punch it, shifting into the higher gears at 4k+ rpm. Keep it nice and smooth, shift at 2.5k rpm, and you'll see that getting to the next stop light faster than the car in the next lane really doesn't get you to where you're going any faster.

I shift at below 3k rpm, about 80% of the time. I don't really beat on my car to be honest. So i would think it has to be something mechanical.

YEAH, i only get at best right now 215 miles to a tank. but i need a oil change and probably could use a tune up soon with 79k miles. the best i have ever gotten was 260 miles to a tank and that was driving like a 90 year old the whole time

Don't sit in traffic. Keep moving. That'll kill your mpg.

Use 5w20 oil, run a can of seafoam through your next tank of gas. Possibly do the seafoam trick putting some in the crank case, etc, which has been disscussed numerous times. Check tire pressure, as has been stated already.

If you're doing 30-40 mph in the city all the time, you're really not going to get much better mileage than 18-20mpg.

Just took a 200 mile trip and figured out I got 27.8 mpg doing 80-90 mph on the freeway. Gotta love ohio for being so freaking flat. Colder weather helped too.

...and don't use that crappy 10% Ethanol Gas. Corn does better for tortilla chips than it does gas.

All I here is lies

Not bad, I usually get 320-350 but if its 50/50 then it cna go as high as 400.

I seem to think that it has to do with the emission control equipment, carbon buildup, tune etc.

I also noticed a mpg increase by changing out the fuel pump housing that has the built in lifetime fuel filter media in it.

does anyone has a part number or link of what the fuel pump housing is like.. and where is it located on the 3.2 CL.. i'm tryin to find anything that i can do to improve gas milage.. i'm about to get rid of the car bc of gas milage.. something is really wrong with the car bc i drive 95% local road and i'm averaging 10-12 mpg until the light comes on when i top the tank..
Sounds horrible isn't it.. if anyone knows anything about the problem let me know.. i've been on the forum talkin about it all the time and nothing helped.. thanks if anyone know anythin..

Last I checked i was getting 18.4 miles. I guess i could keep it out of VTEC, not punch when i'm at a light, keep shifting around 3000 RPMs but than again I love hearing the car engaging at the light, I love hearing the VTEC weeeeee noise, and i love staring at cars in the rearview.

Tragically i'm stuck at 18 miles to the gallon....but atleast i'm enjoying the SHIT out my car. I'm just living out the rest of my 20teen years having fun before the BIG 30.

I didn't buy my CLS MT6 to enjoy gas savings.

just took a trip to PA...and put 450 miles on a tank of gas...which was about 70 percent highway...30 percent city. I averaged 26.2 mpg....not too shabby.
