That does sound like a ballast or a loose connection/bad ground. If it is a ballast you'll only need to replace the bad one.

if you do replace it, do me a favor and pry the cover off and tell us if there is rust inside, ie. water damage.

mine let go at 40k miles. one day one of my lights wouldnt turn on at all. i got worried because i had just got a car wash, and thought that had something to do with it. If it is the ballast, you should be covered on the warranty. if your out of warranty, this could be costly!

the water deflector that goes on top across the radiator was the culprit on my car. it was cracked and was dumping rain and car wash water into the headlight housing. the balast is the low point in the housing, so all the water wentinto it and shorted my balast out.

I have the same problem. I had a water in my headlight so i clean the ballast with the cleaner for the electric connectors now sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
I think you can't open the little box it's dangerous.

If you light went out because of water damage, it will probably happen again when it rains, or after a few car washes. I ended up repairing the shield that goes across the top of the radiator and putting rtv around one of the holes on the back of the headlight casing. Hasn't happened again. I went through 2 ballasts before the problem got fixed  .
