B&M Super Cooler

Hi again gang....

Just a quick note ...I just installed a B&M trans cooler...$70 shipped from UR. on my '02 CL-S...install went pretty good..had to bend and modify a couple of the supplied brackets...no biggie....and the cooler is rock solid as installed..mounted it horizontally in front of the condensor's lower right corner..as you stand in front of the car...did a trans fluid flush after the install....14Qts of Acura trans fluid ..$113 at the stealership thank you very much...but I was NOT going to put ANYTHING other than Acura trans fluid in the car...to me...it was well worth the expense...the car has 56,000 on it...the 3 UR pulley's should be here by the end of the week..ill post the play-by-play install here ASAP...and let you know how the car performs after the install..quick question...can anyone give me best guess on hp gain...from the AEM CAI..and the UR pulley's will give me???...My next mod ..will probably be headers...then.....maybe a turbo...
Thanks fellas....

I'd say you'll gain maybe 10-15 WHP with those mods... 5 or so for the CAI and 10 for the pulleys. Just a guess though.

So any difference in shifts with the tranny cooler? Can you give a run down on how you flushed the tranny and replaced the fluid? I've had a tranny cooler sitting on my work bench for months just because my tranny scares me too much to mod it.

I had a B&M cooler on the tranny in my SHO. They can be had for around $36 if you search around. You don't notice any difference in shifts but it's the piece of mind. Remember to disconnect it in the winter so your fluids get up to temp.

I still have an inline transmission filter that I never installed. Should get around to selling it at some point.

When I had my tranny replaced a few months back the service guy told me a cooler would do nothing to help reduce wear or failure, so that's why I haven't made it a priority to put mine on. 4 trannys? Wow. That sucks.

You don't need to disconnect the cooler if you don't do the coolant bypass.

The number one reason that transmissions fail is due to overheating. Additional transmission coolers make sense for those that push their cars more then the factory designed them to be and can help to extend the life of the transmission. But in the case of the CL autos, it's not heat that's killing them, it's the design of the transmission itself. Sure an additional cooler won't correct the design flaw, but it will help keep temps down and help ward off the other tranny killer, heat.
