axle nut / bolt removal
Well that is it. I have searched and got nothing so how did you guys bend the axle nut tab back up to get it off the hub? Am I just being a pussy? I just jambed the shaft of a flat head screw driver through the handle. You should have seen my face when I realized the driver was getting shorter. Thanks, Jim

I used a small punch to bend it up

I got the 36mm socket, I got the tab bent out of the way, I got PB blaster on there for six hours, I got a 24" breaker bar and a 5' extention and that fucker wont budge. I got my breaker bar from Harbor Freight last week and I am pushing very hard on the extention and I am certain from the deflection of the breaker bar I will break it in half if I give it all I got. Im 6'1", 210lb and not out of shape. My estimate is that at this point I am applying around 500-600 ft/lb of torque on the axle nut at least. LOL, I hope I am going in the right direction! Im on the driver side going counter clockwise if you are looking at the driver side nut. I stuck a chisel in the rotor vein so it will stay still against the caliper. It looks like I have bent the breaker bar a little already and the bar says not to use an extention on it with a little sticker. Do you guys think I should just go for broke on the breaker bar or is the Harbor Freight piece just not up to the task. I sure dont want to hurt myself or the car. What the hell am I doing wrong. Thanks Guys!
I occupied my time today by rebuilding the power steering pump and adjusting the valves. Tonight I am going to do the timing belt if I can get the crank pulley bolt off. I will post all pics when Im done.

hmmmm, ive got both axle nuts off in a few minutes on a 16 year old maxima so there is hope! i would get that chisel out of the rotor vein, that cant be good. if your trying to stop the hub from turning try to use that chisel to wedge it inbewteen the wheel studs at an angle and into the ground to where it wont move. i used a heavy duty socket wrench with a 4 foot pipe as a breaker bar. that shit came right off, and that was after fucking with it for days. i talked to a guy that said that some 1000 ft lb impact wrenches wont even get them off. it will come off though! just stick with it. i tell you what that was one hell of an exhilarating feeling once you get it off

Blown is Best
I had one once that I broke a 1/2" drive breaker bar - just shattered the head on the breaker.
I also had another nut on an Accord that I couldn't get off with my impact gun so I ended up driving over to a truck stop down the road and had them loosen the nut for me with their 3/4" or 1" impact. They had lots of air to drive their impact and it popped off easily for them. They tightened it up enough for me to drive home so I could take it apart. After they broke the nut, My impact had no problem taking it off.

Just like Allout, i broke the head off my breaker bar trying to gt mine off ( i had a 24" with 5 foot of pipe for leverage). I use craftsman so i break it i get new ones.
Also lift, dont push. Give it your all. Those things can be on there tight. Work thru the deflection.

Yup, a garage or truck stop or a tire shop that works on truck tires, just pay them $20 to loosen both axle nuts (or $10 a side I guess), best money you will spend.
I was changing the shocks on a CRX years ago, had a cheap set of tools, I put the car on jack stands, and put a floor jack against the handle of the socket wrench to put more force, broke the cheap wrench, which is a perfect excuse to get some life time warranty ones, broke that too using the floor jack, so I go get a free replacement, and it went snap so I thought I have to get yet another wrench, but this time it was NOT the wrench but the head of the bolt!
I needed the CRX to go to work the next day and this is 9pm after all the stores have closed......
Had to drill out the broken bolt with progressively larger drill bits, took me almost 2 hours to get to about the right size to go through the bolt, but then miraclously the remaining thread of the broken bolt came out with the drill bit, didn't even damage the thread the bolt was in at all!
So I simply went to the local garage and paid them $20 when I was doing the rear shocks, it will be the best $20 you will spend!

what are you guys doing to hold the rotor/axle still when applying torque? Someone said I should not put something in the rotor vein against the calliper.

After breaking three 1/2" drive 24" breaker bars I finally got them off. The heads of all three of the breaker bars completely shattered. I put the wheels back on and dropped the car and put the 36mm socket through the opening for the acura logo cap on the wheel.
