Automatic Transmission Question
Is it possible to shift from neutral to reverse, while your car is moving forward ~30mph?
Are there any mechanism to prevent that from happening?
What kind of damages to transmission?
thanks

Two things to say:
one there is a block on your transmission that doesn't allow stuff like this to happen. just like on manual's you can't put it into first if you are going faster than a certain number of mph
two, if you even think or let this question come into your head, i suggest you sell your acura cl and purchase a chevy nova. what crazy thought made you want to think about this?

i can vouch for this, and NO i didnt INTENTINALLY do anything wrong....when i first got my car (like the second day i had it) i was driving around on the taconic parkway in NY and was driving my car pretty hard, and i thoguht it was in sport shift, so i pushed up on the stick to shift gears, however it was NOT in sport shift and i shifted it into neutral, i was going about 50 at the time with the gas floored....considering how forcefully i shifted it, if it WERE able to go into reverse, it would have...it didnt go into reverse, it just went into neutral and wouldnt go any further up the shift gate into reverse....needless to say, i hit the rev limiter hard and it scared the shit out of me cause that was the first time i hit the rev limiter and i seriously thought i was in sport shift...never made that silly mistake again.

The auto tranny won't let u do that. There is a pin inside the tranny. U hear and feel it when u throw the car in park on a decline/incline. What would happen is say u are traveling 10 mph and throw the car into park. U will hear a loud clicking/clonking sound and when the car gets to around 3 mph then it will lock into park.
Now with R thats got me thinking. I would assume that it would work the same way. But I've on had expreence with the P situation. I mean it wasn't myfault, how was I to know that she didn't swallow.
