Automatic tranny question

I own a 2001 Acura CLS w/ a 5 speed automatic w/ the tiptronic shifter. When you start on 1st gear on the tiptronic (manual) mode, the car will shift to 2nd gear by itself. Is there anyway to keep the car from shifting automatically to 2nd gear? This sucks because sometimes I find myself in a rolling start when racing and the car shifts automatically to 2nd gear and I'm out of my peak power band!!!!!!! Someone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could gate shift and that will keep you in 1st until you want to go to 2nd. A lot of people do that at the track it seems. I am not sure if it is healthy for the tranny though. Other than that, fabvsix is right, put it to the floor and it will stay in 1st and then switch to 2nd when you are about to hit redline.

The more you push the pedal the longer the car waits to shift into 2nd. If you ease up to WOT you can avoid losing traction and still push the car redline.

Yeah, like the others said, just stomp it, or shift through gate.
This pissed me off too when i bought mine, but either learn to live with or go buy 6 speed.
