Auto X questions
Auto X questions
Thinking of entering an auto cross - how many of you w/ the slush box have gone Auto-Xing? All things considered (weight, auto etc.) how does CL do? What cars do we compete against? I still have the stock tires, but will probably ditch them if I go racing. Any other advice? Thanks
Advice: don't get addicted.
I went auto-x-ing for the first time this summer in my slush-box. Had a complete blast. My CL did pretty good, but that's with the TEIN struts at full stiffness and with Comptech Sways.
Auto-x-ing is mostly about handling, not shear speed. Because of this there were CRXs and Civics constantly beating my time. Yes, our cars are torquey but that only helps on the short straights. In the STS class I was timed against slightly modded Civic Si's, Preludes. Check out this site for my time results. I was in the STS class, number 6.
My suggestion is to get rid of the stock OEM's ASAP. Not only was it embarassing to hear them squeal like ms. piggy on corners, but they just don't have the bite. Plus after a few runs they were completely shredded up.
Here's a post I did a while back about my auto-x experience.

i've been AutoX'ing the past 2 seasons...i just raced this past Sat...unless the car is heavily modified, it's gonna b a tough time going around the track...the slushbox IMHO is better than a stick in AutoX, depending on the type of course (tighter with more corners or longer with more straights for WOT)...stock tires r flat out...don't even bother racing with them...if yer serious bout racing autox like i am, u need springs, sways, and tires MINIMUM...i have the Neuspeed upperstrut bar and brake lines as additional aids
with all my mods, i'm in STX class where i compete against ITR's and WRX's...to b honest, it's a sh!tty class to b in (even tho STX class is up to 3.1 liter engines, they stick me there, otherwise, i'll b competing against Vette's, M's, Stangs, etc.)...stock CL classifies u as STS class (i personally never competed in STS since i went from Novice to STX)...so depending on mods, if any, u could b competing against Civics, RSX's, Neon's, Imprezza's, and Miata's, or u could b competing against WRX's, souped-up Teg's, and ITR's...our car's weight does not help one bit, so there's only so much u can do with the car in autox
u could think of autox another way...u could think of it as being a great way to safely test out the limits of the car...u can learn how to recover from fish-tails, better cornering tactics, etc.
it's a lot of fun any way u slice it...definitely worth the $20 - $30
