Unhappy Auto-Dimming Mirror

Alright people, i've researched this a lot and no one has touched specifically on this.

I know about all the problems members have been having with their rear view mirrors. My question is how do you know that it's bad? My old mirror was shit, I knew it because it looked like it had blue liquid floating around in it.

I bought a new one from a member, and it looks great to me. The problem is I have tinted windows so i don't know if the dimming feature is working properly or if the tint is just too dark (20% all around).

I was looking around on the forum and eBay to see what a new mirror should look like. The one I got from the AZ member has a yellow hue/tint to it. Is that supposed to be normal? Because the other ones I've seen online all look completely clear to me. Did I get taken for on this one?

My rear view mirror had a blotch (like an oiley spot in the middle but moved to the top , how does that happen, is it from the heat I started noticing it in the NJ heat wave we had weeks ago@!

My RVM ended up leaking an oily fluid out of the mirror and onto the shift knob and painted silver trim ring. It ate away some of the leather on the knob and all the paint off the trim!!!!

Listen to this guy. This problem is common in our cars and is pretty easily fixed.

Not anymore, many members on the TL forum have been ignored for several months now. I was lucky enough to get a replacement about a year ago, free of charge! It seems as though Magna Donnelly finally got tired of giving away free mirrors.

Man!! The exact same thing happened to me yesterday!! It's like my RVM blew a gasket!! WTF!! A little got on the driver seat, but mostly on the silver trim ring. It actually ate the silver off it

The liquid in the RVM is nasty stuff.

If you have dark tint on the rear window don't bother having the auto dim feature on...it's kind of worthless. Just leave it off.

I seriously don't know why they bother to keep making so much "auto" things. Just more stuff to go wrong with the car. 1st gen CL rear view mirror FTW!

How dark is your tint? I have 20% all around and I can't see a difference at all when I push the button.
The picture I included was what the old Mirror looked like. The one i bought to replace it, doesn't look like any kind of liquid is floating around. It just has a slight yellow tint to it. I'm not too sure how to feel about this.

I tried that route a few months ago and never heard back from anyone. Left messages, sent e-mails and never got anything back. I'll try again and see what happens.

Class action lawsuit anyone?

I've got 5% tint on my back window and have seen no difference with the dimming feature.

So even with your really dark tint, you can still notice when the mirror dims?

Check the BM for some part outs, there might be one in there.

Or else check out Curry Acura at http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214999. They can ship you one for $80.82 ,part number 76400-SEP-A02ZA.

just curious to know how many people have had their mirrors go bad, I still have the original one working in my car and have not got any oil spots or anything, granted I do keep my car in the garage at night I wonder if that is my saving grace.

Oh and to check to see if the dimming feature works or not, hold your cellphone screen infront of where the sensors take the reading from and you can see it get darker/lighter.
or use a small flash light

I have dark tint in the rear and unplugged the power wire so it doesn't auto dim. Even without tint I never use the dimmer and the OnStar isn't available (nor would I subscribe if it still was) so theres no point in leaving it plugged in so I have to push the off button for the auto dim every time I drive at night.

i got my car and the mirror dimmer function broke since it was in the city its whole life in traffic it probably got a work out big time before it crapped out.

Acura sells them new for 80$ i think now... that's what i paid to get mine.. they use to be mid 200s but since so many broke and so many ppl needed to buy new ones and complained about the rediculous price, acura made one more economically priced.

I consider myself lucky it wasn't even 100.
