Auto dim rear view mirror

I did a search for this, but there wasn't too much on it. My auto-dim rear view mirror has stopped working. I leave for work when it's still dark and I didn't realize how much I used it until today when it stopped working. I turned it off and back on several times, but that didn't help. I took delivery of my CLS July of 2000. I left the mirror on all the time and it it lasted 2.2 years. Anybody else have thier auto dim mirror replaced? How long did it last?

There have been a few members, from what I recall, that have had their mirror replaced because it just stopped working.

Sorry, I could give you any more specifics...

Suffice it to say, you're not alone.

interesting...yeah this has come up a number of times...people have stated parts of the mirror have stopped working, while others complained the whole mirror has stopped...i also took delivery of my CLS in July '00, but i RARELY clean the mirror out of fear cleaning reduces the lifespan, so i use a touch of water and a soft handkerchief to clean every month or so...fingers crossed it'll last!!

My rear view mirror completely stopped dimming a few months ago as well. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced it with no problems at all. Some dealers might not stock them, but they can get them usually by the next day.

I didn't clean mine that often either. Once or twice a year. That couldn't of caused failure. I wonder about leaving it on all the time though. Do you shut yours off when not in use?

I remember reading a thread where someone also had the same problem and then found out from the dealer that there is a national backorder on Acura rear view mirrors.

I think the autodim mirror is a great asset; I'd hate to not have it. I leave mine on all the time and don't have any problems, but my car's born-on date was only March of this year.

That might have been, but not now. I just called and I have an appointment to replace the faulty mirror tomorrow.
