Audio upgrade questions

Hi guys,

I am looking to upgrade my audio system for my CL-S 2001, i've read a couple of forums and watched a couple of videos but i am still not sure what to do so i fugured that you guys could help me with that maybe.

Basically i want to upgrade to a new head unit, i am leaning towards either Alpine ILX-W650 or sony XAV-AX3200 as i want android auto.

I would like to keep the rest as stock as possible so i think that either that i keep the factory amp with stock speakers and tweeters with the metra 70-1725 or that i bypass the factory amp with the metra 70-1721 but if i do, will the new headunit be able to power the stock speakers or i have no choice to have an external amp installed so that everything works properly ?

And between these two options, what would give me the best sound quality and as for the installation itself, which one would be simplier ?

Thank you guys in advanve, any suggestions or advice is welcome

Check out and / or interact with DP01TL's thread below over in the 2G TL section, he is doing a whole new system in his TL.
This side of the forum is & that side is not much better; however, he is currently active and could give you some direction?

Onto the next project: Complete Stereo Redo... - AcuraZine - Acura Enthusiast Community
Good Luck.

I've been running the ILX-W650 for a little over 3 years now. I use Apple CarPlay. No issues at all. I swapped my door and deck speakers for JBL GX Series. Sounds great even with the stock amp. I need to get an amp tho.

I recommend Crutchfield when you go to purchase. Came with everything I needed to install.

if i remember correctly the stock speakers are 25w rms so they should be good to be ran off of the head unit's built in amplifier (≈18w rms). however you will have a hiss unless you use a line output converter like the scosche slc-4. if you buy your head unit from crutchfield they will usually include one for free. if you replace the door speakers go with component speakers instead of 2/3 ways with built in tweeters or else your sound will be really tin-ey

It turns out that i went to a local audio shop near me and that the speaker were already been changed by the previous owner and all i add to do what to put the new head unit (i bought a pioneer that he had in stock) and it sounds really great with no hiss or any issue whatsoever. It was really easier than expected after all !
