Audi S4 gets schooled by the Regal :)

Well, with my misfires taken care of, I have been...uhhh. driving a little more spirited lately. I was just minding my own business going home from work, when low and behold, I'm right next to a newer S4. Well, since my traction control is fubared, all I had to do was put on Perf Shift. We were on about a 20mph roll, when all of the sudden I hear that sweet sound of twin turbos being awoken. Not to be outdone, I decided to add the screeching sound of the Eaton M90 to the symphony. Since he took the jump, he had about a car on me. But that didn't last too long. By the time he reached to top of his first gear,I pulled along side. He shifted and immediately lost half to a full car. I guess he noticed it was all over for his S4 so he shut it down. We were coming up on traffic anyway, so it was cool. He caught up, and I tried to line up, but it seemed that he didn't want anymore of the Regal. His Audi didn't even have plates yet. LOL. He'll probably take it back to the dealer saying, I thought you said this was fast. I just got beat by a friggin Regal. hehehe. You know, having an auto with a long first gear is not always a bad thing, especially when you have a bunch of HP and TQ on tap. muahahaha

I still hold, a modded Regal GS is one of the all time great sleepers.

PS. I need to get to the track, to get all of this racing out of my system!!!

nice run dude, i agree, those regals are beasts in disguise!!! the GTP LOOKS like it would be a quicker car, but the regal is very very tame....it hides that supercharger well!!

I love racing the Regal GS; its hilarious when they run so quick on the lowend and then slam into that 108mph governor.

Seriously though, this one guy at Etown runs a pretty consistent 13.5 with his GS. So I have no doubt that a modded GS can take a stock 2.7T S4. Pretty impressive sleeper.

Peace.

No, it wasn't the V8, lucky for me. Those things are beasts.

umm, I don't have no stinkin governor. The DHP PCM took care of that. My theoretical top speed is around 150 or so, but I will never take it anywhere near there. I think it was pretty stupid of GM to put such cheap tires on a car with so much power. The tires dictated the governor. Goodyear LS tires came stock.

As for the 13.5 car at E-town. That is a bit quicker than me. For some reason the East Coast GTPs and GSs run quicker than the Cali cars with the same mods. I think your tracks are better, and I know your gas is.

There is a 72 year old guy who is joining our club that is intercooled and everything, and should be in the 12s, and is now looking at Cams, can you say mid 12s? OUCH!!!. We'll see, I haven't met the guy yet.

Re: Audi S4 gets schooled by the Regal :)

Must have been a used S4. They stop selling them in 2002. 2004 is the new body, and hasn't hit the dealers yet. It has a V8 and runs 12s.

It was a newer twin turbo one. It didn't have any plates at all, so I don't know what was up with it. It must have been new to this guy. The new V8 ones are going to be awesome. I thought they were mid 13s stock, not 12s, but I'm not really up on that car yet. Either way, the V8 would smoke my arse.

Sorry, I don't have any picts of the Regal yet. It is on my to do list. I've only owned the car for 2.5 years now, give me a break. LOL That along with some video at the track.

Well, I can take the 2 to Angeles Crest and go home from there, I live in Palmdale. We could probably hook up around where the 2 and 210 meet, not too far from Pasadena. I will however, REFUSE, to race you in the twisties(I'm not stupid). LOL. I don't know any place around there to play. There are usually lots of Sherrifs hanging out on the road to the crest. Tonight I got to rush home because the wife has a meeting to go to, so I can't play at all tonight. Maybe tomorrow or Friday. It would just have to be a run or two though, I really don't like to run on the street.

e-mail me with any ideas for a place where we could safely make a run or two. If I win, just one run, if you win, I get a chance to redeem myself. LOL

I don't have aim, but I just PM'd you my e-mail addy.

Yes, Palmdale to LA is a Bitch, but it only takes a little over an hour in the AM, and about 1.5 hrs at night. But at least we can afford to have the wife stay home with the twins.

Nice Kill. Your GS sounds like it's damn quick. Take it to a track, as I'd love to see what you can run.

Those S4's are quick! I raced my friend's 2001 S4 a month ago with my Z on the highway from ~60-115. I only pulled slightly on him. I also remember getting murdered by an S4 in my CLS a long time ago.

Really? What about that comparo in Car and Driver against the M3, S4, and C32 AMG?

M3 - 4.8 0-60
S4 - 5.0 0-60
C32 - 5.2 0-60

M3 - 13.6 AT 106
S4 - 13.6 AT 103
C32 - 13.6 AT 106

BRAKING 70-0

S4 168 FT
M3 161 FT
C32 174 FT

300FT SKIDPAD
S4 - .85
M3 - .87
C32 - .81

M3 2 DOOR
S4 4 DOOR
C32 4 DOOR

I don't call that really slower. I was wrong about the 12s part. But if they did a hard launch on a AWD vehicle, I am sure it can hit 12s. But it will kill the car doing it as well.
Also it got 1st place out of hte 3 cars. Overall the car wsa just better per C&D..

Good kill Dave. You will definitely catch some folks off guard.....I know about that motor in your car so I would not sleep on you. I would give it everything I had if you tried me.

Again, good kill.

As for the new S4, I'm a little disappointed in the acceleration numbers...needs more hp for the weight it gained in my opinion. I can't wait to battle a few...should be interesting.

I have run at the track, but it was pre-headers, and at 2700+ ft elevation. I ran a 14.8. The tracks official NHRA conversion brings it down to a 14.3. That was with a 2.25 60'(sucks). I'm still learning how to drive, and it doesn't help that everytime I go to the track I have some new mods, so the learning curve is slower. I don't like depending on the conversion factor, and hope to take it to a lower elevation track.

For comparison, slightly modded WRXs were running 15.0-.4, Fairly stock Mustang GTs(99+) were running 15.1, and my favorit Kill was a poorly driven Camaro SS Auto running 15.0. And those darn Evos were running 13.9!!! Darn those things are fast. I have yet to see a CLS at LACR, but that would be the best comparison to use on this forum.

Maybe someone from SoCal can come out with me next time I go. I'll post it what I figuere it out.

Elevation

Dave,
That elevation really bites. Conversions aren't 100% accurate either. One of by buddies went to e-town a couple weeks ago with the local GTP guys here (east coast). He has your same mods except in addition he had zzp torque buster MM and a 3.25 pulley. He was on the stock RS/As and ran 110 octane for a 13.639@100.82 with a 2.062 60'. It was his first time and coulda still had improvement. I think an optimum run from your car would be in the high 13s. As you know the launch is pretty critical.

I know it is definately capable of 13s, and I have a DUB w/a 3.25 in the box. But I CAN'T DRIVE!!!LOL That was one of my best 60' times(2.25LOL). For my time, I had about 1 gallon of 100 mixed with 3 gallons of 91.

Plus, I think E-town really hooks compare to the west coast tracks. You guys seem to consistently run faster than us with the same mods.

I live in the Lakewood/Long Beach area. Do you ever go down to Carlsbad? Good temps and elevation, but crappy track. I still pulled off a 12.8, few 12.9s and numerous 13.0s there...

I would LOVE to run at one of those northeast tracks like e-town or atco. I would put $$$ down that I could hit a 12.5 as my car sits (maybe a little 100+ octane) at one of those tracks.

Do they make an Eaton M112 for your car? Would it bolt up to your lower manifold?

I've only run at LACR, I hear so many horrible things about Carlsbad(pothole city), I don't think I'll ever go. Plus I live 3.5 miles from LACR. I might try out California Speedway or Bakerfield one of these days, but LACR is so close to home, I can just go for a few hours, and be homein time to tuck the kids in.

There are a few M112 powered L67s running around the midwest, but the official conversion kit isn't out. They are sponsored by one of the big vendors. Check out www.INTENSE-RACING.com . I think they have info on those cars. I think they are mid to low 12 sec cars. The cost of the conversion looks way prohibitive($4000). There is alos a turbo one running 11s and I think a few KBelle twin screw set-ups running around. I'll just continue to plug along in my little M90'd powered V6.
