Attn: Scalbert And/or Smitty And All Others W/ Mugen T-stat

OK...I have a little bit of a problem. Last week I ordered the t-stat, fan switch, and the radiator cap. Now...I recieved them yesturday and planned on installing them today...everything went smoothly except the t-stat was too small. Man was I pissed off cause I'm heading to the track on Sat...so I just left the new switch and cap in. Now my question is did I order the wrong part number t-stat or what. I know smitty said you have to swap gaskets...but to my knowledge the orig gasket won't fit nor seal properly on a smaller diameter t-stat. Then just now when I fot home I did a search and found out that scalbert switched part numbers on the t-stat...I ordered the old part number. Also I noticed that everyone that has the t-stat has a 6 speed...I'm not sure but is the 6 speed t-stat different than the auto. Can someone please help me asap cause I don't know what to do...did I order the wrong part number...or order a 6 speed stat or what.???????????????????????????????????

The t-stat part number I ordered was 19301-XGER-0000
The supposed new part number is 19301-XGMR-0000
where did I go wrong...thanks in advance guys!!!

You answered your own question. You have the wrong one and need to order the other one.

And yes, you can't use the gasket that comes with the Mugen t-stat. It looks good, but try it. There is a minor difference in the seal and make sure you note the little tab looking thing and that it aligns properly.

Can we also get the correct Thermostat part # posted somewhere in the archives? It might save some people some trouble. The t-stat posts don't have the correct #.

Funny that this whole topic should come up. Anyway I just got my T-Stat in today, not installed yet. However, according to some past posts, had to research to get the info specifically from this thread; http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...gen+thermostat , its 19301-XGMR-0000.

For $69 it's worth it considering the very nice plastic box thing it comes in j/k.

I had to go through every combination of T-Stat and Fan Switch before I found the correct ones. They are the same for the 6-Speed and 5AT (J32 Motor).

THERMOSTAT 19301-XGMR-0000 $69.00
FAN SWITCH 37760-XK5-00N0 $45.00
RADIATOR CAP 19045-XGER-0000 $29.00

Keeps your temp from exceeding 180* where the ECU begins to pull timing.

As mentioned, it keeps the engine temps lower where the ECU doesn't pull timing. Although it does not give power, it does allow you to keep from loosing power. See the below plot:

Basically, it doesn't give you more HP, but by keeping your engine cooler you get several benefits. I can't speak to the ECU timing thing, which is good if it does, but keeping your coolant cooler it helps your oil temps, engine temps, etc. Reduces engine wear over time and most importantly for 'racing nuts' it helps reduce parasitic power losses that occur as your engine gets hotter. Not sure that it's much, but hey 2-3 HP improvement in power loss adds up.

I see now. Where was I when this was discussed? Since it's hot in FL almost all year this may be good for me. Does all this just swap right in, or is there some wiring/moding involved?

Yes, being in Florida it would be of benefit. Also, it is a direct swap for all pieces.

You were no subscribed when this occured over a year ago.

And a 15/16" or metric equivelent deepwell socket helps get that t-switch out easier.

Access to the switch was tight and the deepwell socket with swivel ratchet made it easy to get at.

I tried it first with a wrench, that was a biche. Then a standard socket and it barely grabbed and was afraid of spinning off, so I used the deepwell socket and it worked like a charm.

I've got a TLS, so maybe my access is a bit different than a CLS. I've noticed some difference when I looked at some of the guy's CLS in group.

By the way, my previous best run prior to this mod was 14.65 and the first run with this mod I posted a new best of 14.59. And the weather was fairly close in comparison.

So there seems to be some validation to the hp/tq improvements Scalbert posted.

OK...thanks guys. You've helped out alot. I send back the t-stat today and should recieve the new one soon. However the fan switch part numbers that smitty and scalbert posted in THIS thread don't match. Which one cause now I'm getting worried about that???Also should I really get the water wetter by redline. Would it make it run too cold??

Radiator cap

Can't you use the stock cap? I see no reason to replace the stock cap since you are lowering the engine temps!

But your lowering the avg temp the coolant will be at. I would think the stock radiator cap should be fine.

The Rad-Cap really isn't nessesary but was a nice touch to the cooling system with the other parts added. If you are pushing it hard it may help some but for normal driving it is worthless.

Ordered the parts yesterday. Maybe someone can PM me on how to install it.
Only need 1 fan switch right? The 02 service manual I have says there's 3 of them.(A, B, C) Since I have an 03 6 speed is it the same?

No, the 6-Speed only has a single fan switch located on the T-Stat housing.
