I noticed that in your sig it says you ran your 1/4 mile at Sears Point Raceway. Where in the Bay Area are you located?? Cause I'm going back up to school in three weeks and I would love to run against you so I could put you and your CL in it's place!!!!

For the record...I DID NOT pay for my S4 myself. MY PARENTS got it for me, I am only 19. I don't really see what this has to do with the topic I posted though. The fact that my parents bought me the car doesn't make it any slower.

Yes, that is a concern of mine. However, from the posts I've read on this forum is appears that people think that chipping an S4 is like a death sentence for the turbos/engine. This is not the case. It's obviously undisputable that the chip works the engine and turbos harder, but it is still well within the limits of the engine. The S4 engine in stock form is VERY restricted. And as far as the warranty, I remove the chip and switch it with the stock one, then clear any fault codes with a VAG Tool. So when I take the car in for service, it's stock.

 

Isn't it a reprogrammed ECU like ours, or is it acually a "plug-in" style chip?

It is plug and play as long as you buy the spare ECU. VAG tool emulates the dealer diagnostic so you can erase any trace of chipping. Here are links to scanned road tests for a chipped S4. For the lazy folk, 0-60 4.8 secs, 0-100 just over 11 secs. Yes, that is a sniff faster than the e46 M3.

It's not a reprogrammed ECU. Whichever company you choose to chip with (I chose ABT) soders (sp?) their chip onto the stock ECU. What I did, and what most people do is purchase a spare S4 ECU for $500 and have the chip sodered onto that one so you can keep your original ECU stock for when you have to take it in to the dealer. Chipped S4s with exhaust can run 4.8-4.9 0-60s and I have seen timeslips for a 13.1 1/4 mile, however there have been claims of 12.9 and I think I've seen one timeslip with a 13.08 1/4 mile. It's damn fast....330 HP and 370 ft/lbs of torque to slam you into your seat.

Oh yeah, a "VAG tool" is the diagnostic tool used by the service techs to diagnose problems that have been registered by the ECU. It also performs lots of other functions like recoding settings on the car and stuff, it's pretty cool...costs $200 for the software and hardware.

It seems that you wouldn't need a VAG tool since you are just going to swap back to the original ECU, when you take it to the dealer for service. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the DTC would be coming from that stock ECU, right?

Well this is what I mean. The NIRA racer Christian Rado. One of the best on the circuit with undoubtably the fastest car. How does he have such fast cars, nice trailers, and the best mecahnics. His daddy, yes his daddy owns World Electronics and has given him all the money to become the best and this wouldnt have been possible without his dad cuz he's only 20's. He has some sponsors but they dont do jack. I hope you undertstand.

Why is that?? I've never raced a CLS on a track, but my friend Pele77 has one with more mods then yours and I've smoked him plenty of times...from a stoplight, from a roll, you name it. It'll be the same at a track, just more people to witness it. No flame BTW.
