ATTENTION: We will be switching servers...

After alot of hemming & hawing we have begun the process of moving to a faster more robust server.

Our only downtime will occur when we finalize the process at 11:55PM Saturday (03/03/01) night.

We do not expect the process to take very long... but we are doing this late at night so as not to inconvenience any of our users. (Go to bed tomorrow!)

We expect to be fully operational well before sunrise on Sunday morning.

When you visit this forum past 11:55 tomorrow night you will be presented with a message that this forum is temporarily closed.

So get all your posting done before midnight!

... Just wanted to give everyone a heads up!

Yes, were going to INSYNC.net... the ISP WebToker works for.

And yes, I talk in EST.

We wont be on the same servers as our competition... we are getting our own box on my preferred OS.

Linux isnt the best platform for a web server...

Linux has many holes which are too easily exploited.

Linux also has some severe threading problems...

Soopa:
If you're worried about security and
don't want to waste time securing the
machine yourself, I highly recommend
Open BSD.

http://www.openbsd.org

One last note about Debian/GNU/Linux:
Debian is the most venerable GNU/Linux
distribution, and my personal favorite
for workstations because of the wonderful
apt software included. Redhat has a nicer
init layout than Debian, but is very insecure
out of the box for various reasons. Mandrake
just released 8.0 beta which includes
the 2.4 kernel out of the box (Debian's
unstable is still at 2.2.17).

Hope that helps.

Keith
