Hey so cal:

I have not been going karting much since I moved to CA but have searched the web looking for tracks. There was one place where you could pay to race but the URL is dead at the moment. (www.apexracing.com) I found them at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. I still have their brochure.
Them there are a number of tracks and clubs:

http://www.elite.net/akc/
http://www.lakc.org/lakc/
http://www.muller.net/karting/index.html
http://www.ikfkarting.com/

And I know there's more but some of the URLs I had are not working anymore.

I have not been to Willow Springs with the CL but would love to go. I did some Solo1 events in the past and a trach like Willow would be a blast.
I am not sure if the open the track for people to go turn laps, like pay for a lap.
It's too dangerous for them.

Too bad you don't live up North, there's a place albeit pricey called Speedring. Indoor Cart Racing...

I have actually seeing something on Speedvision regarding indoor kart tracks.
This is big in Europe and there are some around the US. I was not aware there was one in No Cal.

Thanks!

If you're looking to run real racing karts, there's a place in Riverside called Andy's Kart track/Showtime Racing.

It's a racetrack, so you need your own kart.

The unsolicited question of "how does one get one's foot in professional automotive racing" is answered "karts."

I agree.

It was a great experience for me. Highly recommended.
