anyone use oil additives?

I was just wondering if any of those oil additives help out. Any of you guys use Prolong in your oil or something of the like?

I am tempted to try it, but wondering if it could possibly do more harm than good.

They will help flush your wallet clean. j/k
I would invest in synthetic oil rather than additives.

I would also use the money to get synthetic oil and a high quality oil filter.

I also use Amsoil and filter. This site http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/filters.shtml compares STP and Mobil1 filters; I had this same guy take apart a amsoil sdf20 and it was the same as these mobil1 ($9.50) and stp ($2.80). I now buy stp which are manufatured by the same company as mobil1. Autozone has them both, check it out.

SHAOLIN9,

Use of engine oil additives is not recommended, as todays engine oils are very good. I would recommend a good synthetic oil and a good oil filter like Purolator PureOne. Good Luck!

Interestingly enough, before I found Park Avenue Acura, I went to Ramsey Acura and they performed the 7500 mile check for me. They charged me for an oil additive. When I ask them what it was they gave me some cock and bull story about Acura recommending this stuff. I can't remember what it was but it was something akin to Slick 50. It pissed me off at the time and I don't go there anymore. They also charged me for windshield washer fluid and the reservoir was full of pink Rain-X that I had put in 2 days earlier.

stay away from that crap. if you use any one of the major brand name oils, a good filter as mentioned in here and change it regularly, you will do just fine.
