I checked one out at a car show, but didn’t drive it.

Then I noticed it had FOUR doors and lost interest.

Not to mention they list at about 30K, but when you start throwing on the “options” you approach BMW 3-series price territory rather quickly.

yea i priced one out on their site... for the 3.0 sport package, full loaded with navi, it comes to 45k!

But im thinkin, thats not too bad for a AWD car. Then again, the 330xi should be a better buy.. rite?

Im just shopping for my old man. I swear there is nothing good out on the market!!! Why couldnt the 5-series be AWD!

I test drove soooooooo many cars; as far as the X type:
1)nice sound, not as nice as the CLS
2)nice power, not as powerful as CLS
3)nice interior, NICER than CLS
4)great looks
5)outfitted the way I wanted & comparable to CLS= $45,000

In short, 15 biggins for the Jaguar nameplate

Given Jag's reputation, I'd think being called a Ford would improve things.

Jaguar is owned by Ford, as is Volvo. GM owns SAAB.

That weird how eveyone says that... but my old man used to own a 89, and a 94 XJ6 back in the day... and he NEVER had problems..
I thought they would be even better now since Ford took over. :P

X-type is built of the Ford Mondeo platform (that would be Contour to us). The new x and s type jags suck, cheapening the brand to sell cars. The last TRUE JAGS are the current XJ and XK8 series.....

What platform is the Lincoln LS on? I thought the Xtype and LS were the same...

My father has an S-Type and he has had absolutely no problems with reliability.
In fact he hasn't had any problems with it at all.

I'm not a big fan of the styling, either interior or exterior, but if you want that kind of look I guess the X-Type or S-Type are the way to go.

I haven't driven the X-Type yet and I probably won't because it just doesn't seem like the car for me, but if it is built the same standard as our S-Type then I think it's probably a safe bet.

As for the high price once you add options....it's the Jag nameplate and the over-the-top styling. If you wan't a car with all those swoops and chrome pieces, and lunging animal ornamentation and all that stuff, then where else are you going to go for a lower price.

Just my two cents (well...maybe a penny or so).

I drove a Jag x-type and a Lincoln LS the other day. Not bad cars.. The Jags interior was really nice! But i wasnt impressed with the interior noise and engine sound (for a so call upscale car). I might have been thinking "this is still a friggin ford". I liked the cars as a whole but liked the LS a little better because it was a manual. Suspension was about even. Im not to fond of AWD but for the money i would get a awd Audi A4.

I drove a 02 LS toaday (V8 AUTO). My friend was telling me how fast it was...one romp & I knew my CLS would blow all 4 off. Not to mention it still felt like a boat.

Sorry, I didn't see this before I replied...The X-Type is built on the European Mondeo platform, which made a brief appearance here in the states as the Contour/Mystique twins. That is why Jag made it all wheel drive. Basically they took a front wheel drive car and made it all-wheel, knowing they could NEVER get away with a fwd Jag. The LS shares a platform with the new Tbird and Jag s-type.

X-type is the Contour? Didn't know that. back in 98/99 I almost got a Contour. It looked like my Legend's tranny was about to die and it had too many miles to get it fixed. So a left over Mystique/Contour appeared to be in order. It turned out to be an improperly set ECU. Do ECUs have firmware updates, like PC BIOSes and high end printers?
I think Ford made a mistake when thet ditched the Contour here in the states. They don't have a mid sized sedan. Unless I'm forgetting something.
