Anyone know what the law is in Ny...

for front license plates? I'm assuming it's illegal to not have it on, but tonight I took it off and it looks about a thousand times better - So needless to say I don't want to put it back on - What would I get if I got pulled over? If it's a ticket, would it screw with my insurance (insurance companies already hate 19 year olds) - And last question, is it ok to just have it in the window if say I did get pulled over? - Thanks a lot for any answers, I'm hoping that I can just test my luck and leave it off

i havent had a front plate on forever... i only got shit about it 1 out of the several times ive been pulled over.

he only told me that i should put one on. no ticket or nothing... t
he rest of the time the cops didnt even pay attention.

its not a big deal.... but technically it is illegal.

if you get ticketed u usually just have to prove u put it on and case closed.

were in pretty much same area... so im sure same goes for your local cops.

it's illegal here too, but my car has never had a front plate. the cops have never looked twice. i even got pulled over on sunday and the cop didn't say anything. i thought i was getting a ticket for sure. i had my 8500 hanging from the windshield and shoe polish #'s on my windshield from being at the drag races earlier in the day. but i got a warning. lucky.

Just a ticket w/ a fine- no points on license and won't effect insurance.

It is illegal to remove it, but I agree with Soopa... I don't think you'd get much crap for it. The state troopers are usually pretty cool, but you may run into some problems with the local cops, depending on how they are in your area.

Here is Cali, you only get a "fix-it" ticket, which is a $10 fine and then you have to find a cop so that they can sign off your ticket that shows that you had put it back on. I have never had a front plate on any of my cars, and never got one of these "fix-its." One time a cop did tell me to put it back on as well as to take off my front window tint, but come one, neither of those happened!!!!

all the above might be true, but in the 5 buroughs the cops and even parking authority will give you hell. I parked my truck in a residential area in queens and came back to a ticket. Don't forget, they have a quota to fill over here in westchester too. just keep it on if you don't want a headache. If tickets don't bother you, go ahead and trash that piece of tin.

Just keep your license plate in ur trunk with the front plate holder and if a cop pulls you over, tell them your getting your car detailed and the shop told you to take it off so there won't be any tan lines there when they wax it and everything. I got this from Amir i think.

i didn't have the front plate on my ford tauras and i got a ticket while i was parked in queens. it is my junk car i take to the train station. the front was smashed up and no front plate. sent in pictures of both plates and showed the front of my car was smashed. i said the plate was in the front window. they said that was not a valid excuse but reduced the fine $25 dollars. it's not my fault some Ahole backed up into my car.
