Anyone know how to remove speed governor?

I was absolutely sure that our TL-S/CL-S's were "drag limited" based on the info from Acura brochures and websites. This weekend i was chasing some bikes down 95 in NJ and hit the limiter at around 148mph(it just cut off the gas on me)- WHAT GIVES?? the car felt like it still had TONS of power... i'm sure i couldve squeezed out 170, and with the new tires, 150 doesnt feel fast.

Nehow, does neone know how to remove the governor? Has neone done this on the CL/TL?
(no flames about high speeds please, if u dont like it, deal with it)

Not that I will ever go that fast, I sure would like to know if you can disable the governor just for the ablitly to say my car goes 170 My friend did it with his Audi S4 and I think he said it tops out at about 170 - 180

1. Unless your going down hill, I did some rough calcs, and figured out that the stock car would go around 152 or so on a level surface with no mods.

2. A car with the headers and CAI will do about 155+ (hard to know exactly) -- I just used an iterative formula and some speeds from 4th gear max and 5th gear max speeds.

So:

a. Is it really worth it for an extra 7 miles per hour (unless of course you want to go down hill).

b. The stock tires are 'V' rated for 149 MPH

If you really want to kill the limiter, there is a signal from the secondary shaft/output shaft in the transmission. Maybe the signal could be messed with... (I'm not sure about this)

I though there was a posting about a company that modified our ECU/PGM-F1 unit -- Jet or something???

Mod the ECU. Cars these days are "electronically" governed, so that means it's time to mod the ECU.

Altering this signal Eric is referring to would probably have other side effects as well, such as gear rationality failure codes in the TCM (what gear am I in?) as the input and output shaft speed variation can no longer be measured. But in the quest for the unattainable 170MPH...who cares, go for it.

What bout modifying the PCM to not upshift 1->2 ? Is that feasible?

I wish we could find a hack for that. Its funny when I put it in SS and I don't even touch it till 3rd gear...

The transmission had all kind off goodies controlled from by the ECU. If someone would ever get a hardware debugger/emulator on the thing, I think a lot of stuff would be possible.

1. Top speed -- Change the 147 value in rom to 254 MPH (just in case its a byte value)

2. The 1->2 2->1, If you can shift by using the D2->D1, I don't see why some smart person couldn't add the feature (if properly motivated).

So, who do we bug to death for the changes. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

BTW -- I don't know if Acura will be helping out with these mods.

I bet if you're friendly with a tech they could help you out.

Even byte value is good up to 255.

I just installed a Field vtec/afc in my car and it gives you the option to take out the speed limiter. Just one switch. Kinda useless to me cause I don't have a deathwish and haven't exceeded 120 mph....

just a few questions...going ~150mph what kind of brakes are you running? what happens if a car changes into your lane that's going 60mph...or a rabbit runs onto the road? just a few thoughts.

The rabbit explodes in a puff of blood mist and fur like in that one video clip from some race where a rabbit did just that in front of an F1 car (or was it a stock car?).

As for someone switching lanes, you switch to the other one they just switched out of, and slow down, no?

Or use the shoulder if you must.

But I would think people would only go that fast if the road was deserted anyway.

Acura will definitely not helping out with this mods, because the stock tires are VR rated. This means that the tires can only be safely driven up to 150mph.

How clever...

See, I get penalized for thinking about putting in a "sentinel" value of -1 (signed) = 255 unsigned.

I don't think the car wouldn't even reach a terminal velocity of 220 MPH if tossed out of a 747...

This FIELD controller will not work in 6 Cylinder vehicles...it cannot interpret RPM properly and will display a figure about 33% High and create all sorts of problems in tuning...so V6 owners, beware...
