I bought my 2003 CL new Nov. 2003 and the rear console has never locked. Finally brought the car in to the dealer yesterday and they replaced the entire rear console. Now it locks but I have another problem. When the console is not locked, it doesn't latch securely. You can lift the console cover up with very little pressure from your baby finger. Now it appears that the cover will fly open when going over a hard bump. Does anyone else have this problem?

mine works fine.. pull up on the rear seat cushion and they will come right out... take a 10mm socket , 4 nuts and the console will come right out... take a look at it.. or go back to the dealer and have them fix it..

 

When you close your console cover, does it snap shut? If so, can you open it without pressing the plastic release lever or is it securely fastened? On mine, I can lift it up with very, very little pressure and without pressing up on the plastic release lever. When locked, it is securely fastened.

 

Yes, the CLP had unique colors the CLS didn't offer, the green and the gold come to mind.

 

I believe there was also a dark blue.

 

i had a similar thing happen, had 3 people in the back once and they sat on that, after that it never opened again, had to have the latch replaced.

 

Mine used to got stuck locked on a couple occasions within 3 months of ownership, and since then (more than 2 years) I haven't had any problems once it was replaced-

 

Are you referring to replacing the latch (the key hole) or the plastic part? I ask because when I bought my car a few months ago, the plastic clip on the lid was broken off so it would not latch down securely. I had them replace it and then never had a problem until now. I locked the console before and it opened fine. But recently when I went to go unlock, it will not unlock. It turns, but won't budge. I wonder if weight (someone sitting on it) would cause this or if there was always a problem to begin with since the clip was broken when I bought the car (like someone had the same problem, and could only break it open).

Please let me know what part I should replace. If it be the keyhole latch, does the dealership need to do it to match my key?
