I'm in San Diego and have bypass

Just pay the $47 and get the bypass. I got it $47 including tax, free shipping from some site that I now forget. Anyhow, it's definitely worth the cost to insure the risk IMHO.

What the heck are you talking u don';t need a bypass valve in Socal? It rained in east LA the 16 years I was there and if u don't gotta contend with rain it's the Sepulveda basin flooding or WORSE... BACKED UP STORM DRAINS!

Eric, I'd do the isntall myself. Just make sure u make an EVEN and STRAIGHT cut of the pipe in half and attach the bypass valve. If u fucked it a bit, you'll have to trim off maybe an inch of piping to get the valve to fit on properly. Dood, it ain't worth paying to install just that part.

I knew that was coming sooner or later (the do it yourself) -- re: hacksaw and miter box, freehand hacksaw routine, etc.

I'm sorry to say I spent my some of my teen years doing sheet metal fabrication, welding, auto g-jobs, yada yada yada... (Shop was populated with a old-timers with missing fingers *and* blood tales.. )

AS far as the flooding goes, the previous storm (not this very last one) filled a few local intersections with water.

And, I'm only a few miles from the location of a bunch of apartment complexes that had their underground parking garages filled to 3-feet over the car's roofs! OUCH!!!!

Look at Chodthewacko's step by step install, it shows you pics the whole way through. I did it in 45 min start to finish.........all yo need is a hack saw ( I used a sawsall) and a socket set.

Paid up $60

Since I didn't have any tools, I just paid up $60 for the installation. They fucked up one of my lower fog lights I found out as I was leaving so I'm gonna go back and get that fixed tomorrow. But it's harder than I thought when I watched it. I'm glad I paid. And if it fucks up, you can sue the shit out of the shop.

$60 isn't bad if they fix what they break.

RE: do it myself (now that the intake is in)...

1. No hassle of removing the original factory intake

2. I'd like to have the pipe cut (clean and straight) with a good saw (bandsaw, take-your-pick), but if go somewhere to get it cut, I have to do it on a Saturday (for the 2nd car), since mine will now be sans intake!

3. If I do it myself, I only need a couple of new hacksaw blades (# 2 as a spare), but I need to clean up the edges (deburr it) and I would prefer a nice straight (no brainer cut) from a good machine saw. (Sorry, my jig saw blade is not long enough)

Why the ramble -- Heck, for 60-bucks, it isn't worth my time, replacement hacksaw blades, strained back, and effort (although I could be sure some knuckle-dragger didn't leave aluminum crumbs in the pipe).

Yeah, so I watched him

I got it done at Penn Auto Performance in San Diego. A guy named Scott I think did it. Good guys, did a good job, and I was actually watching and helping through the whole thing so he sorta had to but he was good about it.

Where are you in LA?

Can you send me a Private Message?
