anyone have the front windshield tinted?
most days here in texas, it gets really really really hot!
i was thinking of tinting the front windshield but finding a place that will do it is the first part, is it really worth it and how much does it mess up visibility when driving???

I have mine tinted 50% metallic and have no visibility issues at all. It cuts down on glare and heat and in certain lights most people don't even know its there. I had 35% on my old TL (installer accident) and it was too dark especially at night and in the rain

35% black tint on the windshield...I love it.
No issues here. I've had it on since Nov '03. haven't been pulled over yet. You really can't see in my car at night.

I've heard some people use static cling tint sheets to mount their inspection stickers...that's if the inspector doesn't mount them on the windshield. Hopefully they just hand them to you and leave it up to you to put them on.

almost any tint shop will do it. At first they will tell you it's illegal and why do you want it done. Then, they give in and say it can be done despite them saying it's illegal. It's money in their pocket.
I pulled up to my boy's tint shop a few saturday mornings ago, and he was tinting the hell out of a tahoe's windshield. It looked like he was putting 5% limo on the front.

Not only is it illegal, how do you keep from scratching it? For the most part, you side and rear windows just don't get as dirty as your front. I would think that after just a year or so, it would get scratched.

it wont scratch because all tint film is located in the inside of the car

I’d sue the piss out of that fool if he hit ran into me at night.
I could understand 50% or maybe even 35%, but 5% is just crazy if you’re ever going to drive at night or in rain.
If it’s a show car fine, but I could never see driving something like that everyday.

so what would be the best color to go with and %
i currently have 30% silver/greenish metalic tint on
would a black tint on the front look weird? i dont want it to be too noticable i just want to fight off the heat a little bit. AND NO IM NOT GETTING A windshield sun shield I AM TOO LAZY TO PUT IT ON!
im guessing 50% black should be fine? it would look like stock but just a little bit darker? and im pretty sure there will be no visibiltity in my car at night?

Yea ... but don't you all clean the inside of your windshield more then the other windows? I know I do because of the fog crap that comes off the dash when it heats up and the defroster in the winter time.

I use ammonia-free window spray on all my windows. works beautifully.

Hey Sidemarker how are you going to deal with the inspection stickers and tags on the windshield.... thats the only thing that is stoping me. My RSX has limo all around except the windshield. I have actually though about adding a layer of 35% on top of that, its just too damn hot here

my question from one of posts up top was do the actual inspectors put them on your windshields or do they give it to you for you to do?
If they give it to you, you can get some static cling tint and put all your inspection stickers on their so that if you do get the windshield tinted, all you have to do is put up static cling tint with the stickers on the windshield.

See if you can peel it off the moment you leave the inspection station. Hopefully the adhesive would not permanantly stock to window so you can pull it off.
I guess my inspection will be in a year or so...so I don't know if I want to take off my tint and get it redone.
When I initially got my sides windows done and the windshield had no tint on it, it was burning my eyes cause the front was so bright. it was a definitive contrast between the dark-tinted sides and the bare windshield. Now, my eyes don't have to adjust too much cause of the tinted winshield.

I know in PA it’s a law that the technician MUST affix the sticker to the windshield after the inspection.
He can’t just hand you the sticker.
If he did, you could stick it on another car you own that has failed the test.
Or you could sell the sticker for a profit to a third party.

I have mine windshield tinted at 50%. And the Inspections stickers go on this type of cling strip that electrostatically attaches to the winshield. Its one of those stickers that the dealer puts on .. to remind you of the next oil change.. if you guys know what I'm takling about. Here are pics:

Looking Inside Out:
Passenger Window Rolled Down to see difference with tint and no tint:
Passenger Window Partial Roll Down (50% Tint on Windshield and 20% on Passenger Glass)
Now as far as being hassled by cops and what not... I have yet to get pulled over. The guy that did my tints.. provides the cling stripos for free. and when you need to replace your inspection stickers, he'll provide new stickers.
My visibility, is not hindered when driving.. peopel that sit in my car can't even tell i have my front glass tinted.. so that should tell you, and I provided pics to prove it too. I just like the fact that I dont have to go hunting for my sunglass now with the front glass tinted cuz it takes pretty much the glare out of ur face. I wouldnt recommend doing ne more than 50% cuz I've sat in a car with 35% up front and its a lot darker and harder to see.
Hope this helps.

So the inspector technician gave you your inspections stickers to put on?
#29
Well.. I'll be going in 2 months to get my inspection done. So I'll find out then.. but most of the time if you ask your tint shop where to take it for inspection, they'll recommend their guy that will over look the tinted glass. That's what I plan on doing.

I admit it look HOT on the front, I just don’t want to play games with the cops and risk wasting my money on tickets and tint that gets taken off.
I also prefer 20% on the sides, but I went with 35% for the same reasons.

I got 15% all around and 35% in the front. As long as you don't break the law
you will not get pulled over for the front being tinted. Atleast I never have. BTW
at night time it's beautiful because nobody can see inside your car. I love having my ride tinted all around. More privacy you know...
I got a friend who's an idiot. He has a yellow IS300 with the front tinted and speeds a lot till he finally got caught. Now he has to get it removed. I forgot to
mention that the idiot has a radar detector and he still got caught. Driving a yellow IS with the front tinted you can't be more conspicuous than that.
bwahahahaha!!!!!

Anyone know if tint will stick to tint? I like the 50% front idea, but I gotta have a visor strip too. Maybe 50% overall with a 35% strip on the visor line? Rest of the windows will be 20% btw.

ok i found a place that will do it
ive heard that if you have a doctors note any tint installer can do it "legally"
now i need to know whats a good brand for a black tint?
i currently have a silver metalic tint but i want to front windshield to be a darker color rather than a silver color?
im also going to tint my moonroof with metalic tint and probably the lowest % as possible. i hope this will reduce some more heat, also i think i would be pretty neat to drive around without the moonroof cover?
