Anyone have 18" rims in MA?

I am almost ready to take the plunge and start looking for 18" wheels now that the weather is getting nice but I learned the hard way in my last car that getting larger rims leads to many bent wheels on Boston roads. Is there anyone in MA that has 18" wheels that commutes a fair distance and HASN'T bent their rims? I had Mille Miglia Action Sports on my Prelude and in a year I bent all 4 wheels. Could it just be the brand of wheels that bent easily? Any recommendations?

Get forged wheels. They are $$$, but they're worth it. I've driven around Boston plenty with my car and have had no probs, have had bubbles.

Bubbles in your tires from hitting potholes? I suppose that can happen even with the stock 17" wheels. Any brand of forged wheels that seem better than others? I have seen Axis mentioned pretty often, are they forged? Sorry for my ignorance when it comes to rims....

One of my Supra buddies just ordered
Volk GT-Cs, forged with Polished Lip, 19x9.5 in front, 19x10.5 in rear. He's gonna put 35s on 'em. He's nuts tryin' to drive around Boston like that!

Andy.... you know what mine look like, so far so good. Just got some centering rings for the wheels and the car rides smooth as hell. I drive 60+ miles a day to framingham.... I have hit some small potholes and the wheels are holding up just fine. I say go for it man. You will love your car that much more by adding some wheels.... plus you get alot of people checking out your ride. good luck!!!!

Steve, your car looks hot with the evos! I might get some 18" OZ SLs next year but those are pretty strong for a non-forged wheel.

i have a few friends around town w/ 18's and no problems really.
i am actually getting 19's in the next week or so when my teins arrive. the thing is in boston or where ever, you just have to be more aware of the road conditions with bigger wheels and less tire.

some people on the TL site were trying to get a meet going for the weekend of May 17 (on a saturday). Pete and I have been talking about doing a strip meet (Dragstrip then stripclub) sometime in May. We'll think of something.

We can always try and do the F1 meet and see if soopa would want to come. He can even organize it since we NE people are so lame!

It was great meeting you guys at the last meet but only 4 of us went out afterwards. We need more peeps next time!

Well, my last day up here would be the 13th of May, so I was hoping before that.

Speaking of 18 inch rims, there seem to be a lot of chumps driving around with M3's on Comm Ave. There are also a lot of wanna be M cars here. Kinda makes me sad.

Just checked out the SSR GT1 rims online. NICE! They look pretty elegant. Any pics of what they look like on a CL? The VOLK GT-Cs look great too. Ferrizo, you forgot that I am getting married next year too? Buying rims would certainly be frowned apon but if I want them bad enough she'll understand. I hope.

Well, I haven't made up my mind yet but I appreciate the support. Thanks guys!

As for a meet...my weekend are totally booked until 17th (Saturday). We could do another rt1 mini-meet on that Saturday though...

www.tirerack.com has them, and you can choose the color of the car. tmk70 has them on his silver '01 CL-S.

Saturday the 17th would be cool for me...I'm not bartending that weekend, and I will be back from Houston. Ferizzo and I are tryin' to get a few folks to go to the track the day before, too.

mmmm...SSR GT1. Both cars look great.

Bulldog, I checked out Tirerack (about 10 times already!!! ) but it just doesn't quite look the same on their CL picture as it does on a real car.

Maybe you'll see mine in person at our next meet, BlackMagic...did you ever go to the meet last year at the Natick Mall? I don't think we've ever met.

When was the meet? I have only had my CL-S since October. I'd like to see them in person before I decide.

TireRack lists them at $399 for the 18". Did you find them cheaper or is that a good price?

Ouch...with tires I am looking at about $2000. I think ferrizo is right...wheels might have to wait for after the wedding/honeymoon. I can just imagine now...

"sorry honey, we can't go on a nice honeymoon but doesn't my car look great?".

399...that's what I paid too. The meet in Natick was like last April or something. You aren't by any chance the guy I met up with at the Hess in Waltham, are you? I met a guy who had just bought a used CLS(Black) there and I was like, "So, how's your tranny?" I proceeded to tell him about the site and the "idiosyncracies" of our cars...it wasn't you, was it?

Haha! Yeah, I'm looking at about 1800-2000 bucks for the OZs with tires. Not to mention that I am getting married this year. It was bad enough I bought the car before I bought the ring, I don't think I could postpone the wedding for rims!

Titand19, maybe we can do another rt1 meet the weekend of 5/10/03, before you leave! Anyone else interested? Or you can come back for the meet on the 17th!

We'll see, cause once I go home, have a lot of stuff to do to the car. Brakes & I'm gonna be doing some fiberglass work. But you never know.

Nope. Doesn't ring a bell. Besides, I bought mine new up at Sunnyside in NH.
