anyone ever had this happen to them?

so i was working on my caster so i detached the upper contorl arm bal joint and then my AXLE EXTENDED and would not go back to size.

I was forced to remove everything, lca, end link, radius rod, the knuckle and the abs sensor. I cannot believe there mayhem it created.

basically I had to take everything apart so i could remove the axle then had to take off the axle boot and re-seat all the bearings in there so it would be the correct size again, and then reinstall.

BUT i destroyed the lower ball joint in the removal process as it would not come apart which is why i had to remove everything. then I used a grinder to get rid of the bolt which was bonded to the threads from me beating on it with a sludge. however the ball joint also was coming out of its seated position whcih pinched the axle!!..

fucking nightmare fellas.. but as it stands everything is good to go back into place i just need the lower ball joint.

just wondering if anyone has had their axle extend on them and stay extended, forcing them to remove the axle??

just my luck

Only time I seen a axle get extended like your talking about is when someone try's to remove a axle(pulling on it) without poping it out with a large screw driver or pry bar.
What was your ball joint issue ?
Did you not use a balljoint seperator ?
Or was the castle nut striped ?
Don't know why you would be beating on any part of the ball joint.
Except if you were using a socket to drive in or out the whole ball joint.

ball joint separator didn't work i needed to use a sludge and it just stripped the lower ball joint so i need a new one. and it only came out after i removed everything and grinded off the entire nut and bolt

so i put her all back together and now the trans is all fucked!?

makes a loud noise when going into gear.

also the shifter will move freely but once in drive the shifter will not go past N

u have to turn the car off in order to continue moving the shifter to park.

the sound the trans makes is the same sound u hear if u were to b driving and then put the car into park... u would hear a notchy metal sound. any ideas??

this makes no sense cause trans was working 100% before this axle fiasco

Did you leak any tranny fluid? Did you verify that the axles are fully seated in the transmission?

no fluid leak and axles were seated, it seems as if something may have gotten bent inside the trans from me trying to force the axle back into position?

i dunno but it's just fucked

and now i'm fucked

no fluid same out on passenger side cause it sits in the extension thing.

when the axle was hyper-extended I lifted up on the knuckle assembly to try and re-seat the axle, so i'm GUESSING something inside the trans is messed up from pushing on everything???

i dunno it just doesn't make sense but the car won't go into gear basically and makes a horrible sound when u go put it in D5, and then when u go to put it back in park u can;t go past N unless u turn the ignition off first.. so weird. just my luck

i wish.. i dunno man this is just outta my league now.

I have never been so disappointed in myself I just wanna hide in a box.

i created my own hell... and now i'm gonna have to pay the piper.

i just hope w/e i somehow managed to F up is easily replaceable. i'm just praying i didn't bend the internal housing or something... knowing my luck (or lack of) anything is possible.

i'm putting her back together in a few hrs and then getting her towed to my mechanics house where he's likely going to have to drop the trans a sift through everything to see wtf is wrong.

even my mechanic said it shouldn't b possible for me to push hard enough on the axle to damage anything but, somehow as always I have seem to defy logic.

Same sounds and issues happend to me installing new axles with no tranny problem before install.
Axles poping out was my noise.
I reinstalled the axles multiple times and the same thing would happen in minutes. All your issues your explaining.
My car started to engauge at 1200 rpm before it would move so,I'm not driving it.
I bought another tranny and have yet to install it.
I'm Just done messing with the axles so tranny it is.

Did you use cardone axles?

Hope your mechanic finds your issue before mine come out.
The only thing I could think of is
Itermediate shaft is broken inside the tranny or
converter issue

ive done axles on several cars before so i know something aint right.

dunno but whatever it is u can hear it inside the trans when u turn either axle it's like a gear grazing the inside of the transmission somewhere. right at the lower portion of the trans.

i just know it's the trans and worst of all i can only attribute my troubles to myself which is why i am so disappointed in myself.

and i got all new parts inside the fucker so it's gonna have to be completely disassembled then checked then parts replaced then re-installed.

this is the 3rd time now that trans is coming out.. lol with the same guy, so hopefully he'll feel bad for me and give me some sort of deal.

i'm in school now for woodworking so i barely work and cash is tight so.. i just cannot believe that 1 the axle hyperextended and 2 that I was able to damage the trans after trying to deal with this fluke that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

i've never created any sort of problem for myself with any car and now this. so i'm just no very fond of myself at all right now.

What axles did you use ?

Ive done many many axles too.
This was my 3rd or 4th on this car and I had the same outcome as you on my last atempt. I am puzzled aswell.
But,my main question to you is what brand of axles did you use ?

Did your mechanic take a look at your car yet ?

I'm still not sure what my issues was but today I was pulling my manifold and leaned on the motor(side mount was not conected ) and thought I was going to fall in the when the motor side went down and tranny side lifted really far and made a bang.
Seams their is nothing left of my tranny mounts.
Maybe that's why mine was spiting out my axles.

Curious what your mechanic says about your problem.

so 2 days ago my mechanic finally finished his porsche motor swap and then got in my car to see wtf's up and what do u know?

it frigging works as if nothing ever happened!!!!

we were both just baffled beyond belief. so this entire ordeal cost me a grand total of NOTHING. i gave him a 95$ bottle of wine because I was so friggin happY!!! even tho he didn't do anything to fix the car he's done tons for me in the past, so i figured it's good karma.

and that's the story folks. i dunno if i'm incredibly lucky or stupid, but i'll take it

He had to re seat the axle.
it's not going to pop itself back in.
Your noise was from the axle being popped out.
Glad to hear you car is all good again.

that or raising the car and putting it back down probably reseated the axle, That was a trick I used to do on my old 91 civic hatch if I couldn't get the axles to seat right.

Just saying.

At least it didn't pop out while you were driving! I guess I take turns too hard, and right after I did my usual hard right turn into work, I hear this "BANG!"...My car would still move, but barely. So I got out, and I noticed that my front driver-side wheel was sitting at a weird angle. I looked underneath, and I managed to snap that lower ball joint bolt IN HALF!!! I still have the remains of that bolt somewhere.

THEN, the tow truck came and attempted to pull my car unto a flat bed...."BANG!"....I scream! The wheel was all the way up in the wheel well, and the three moly-covered rollers where in a pile on the ground!!

It was a disaster, but my insurance covered it all.
