anyone do the HID/Projector highbeam setup yet?

I remember a thread but cant find it about someone going to put HIDs/Projectors in place of our high beam location. I think it would be a great idea and add much more light to the road. Somehow have 2 settings to where you can have them on with the our normal headlights, but still be able to use them as highbeams. I am very interested in doing something like this, just dont really know what it takes to make it work.

can anyone provide any insight or ideas to this idea?

I don't think anyone has done one in the highbeams.

MrMehoff had them done where is low-beams were.

A bi-xenon actuator will work with this setup... you can buy the projectors from eBay search for X5 Projectors, murano projectors, merc projectors, or what I used: audi projectors...

example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-Ni...22447045QQrdZ1

You need to setup a few relays for the actuator to work. You can buy the HID lights from any website that sells OEM Phillips/Hella components. Or if you are lucky... buy everying all at once by buying a COMPLETE headlight assembly and removing the parts you need.

It will cost $$$, but the setup is sweet. You need tocustom fab mounting points and dremel quite a bit of stuff off. Use plumber's silicone sealant to water proof the setup. If I can find old pics... I have pics of the same setup I custom made for a VW member using the components listed above.

I have a set of 03 headlights sitting in my house and was throwing the idea around of retrofitting a set or projectors to them.

Anyone have pics of this done?

That would be hot. There's a GS400 around here who has them in his headlights. Looks sweet.

ok doing some research. What about just making the highbeams HID? DO all I need are 9005 HIDS and ballasts? Also, what is a good HID company out there? Phillips I think is one, any others?

I just also was thinking, it may not be possible to have the highs on all the time with the lows cause I dont think the highs have aimers. I will be blinding everyone. Can anyone confirm that with me or is there a way you can aim the highs to the ground like the lows.

I've thought about doing this as well. Converting my 9005 high beam to an HID setup, Except I'd replace it with these yellow bulbs that are HID:

Currently I'm running 9005 yellow bulbs in my High beams that I've always done dating back to when i used to have my integra. I just love the yellow/normal light combo.

Yellow is cool. Legal too. Those French like their yellow lights.

I had 2300K bulbs in the VW awhile back... looks awesome plus the visibility was 1000% better.

Again, only go for Phillips or Hella for components. Anything else is junk.

But can you aim your highbeams? I want them on when my low beams are on, but if I cant aim them, then Im not going to do it because I will be blasting light at everyone. If I cant aim them, Im not spending 300 to use them like 5 times a year.

If you retrofit projectors, you can aim them any way you want. But with existing high beams, stationary... they are adjust 1:1 with the low beams. So no, you can't aim them.

ya i was leaning more toward just using hid replacements in the highbeams now, then retrofitting projectors which will be more expensive. damn!

are you trying to put hid's in the high beams or projector lens's and hids in the high beams? if your trying to put projector lens's like the integra's then i would STRONGLY reccoment NOT to try and retrofit projectors to fit out NON projector headlights. if you want a brighter light output for your highbeams then i would first advise to purchase a better bulb for an hid "look" but hey its your car so go for it. here are some instructions for ya

Why not retrofit? I have done it before. It requires a little ingenuity and intermediate know-how of tools and craftsmanship and electricity... but it turns out "OEM" afterwards.

A projector does NOT provide brighter output but allows a beam to be "cut-off" sharply, vastly increasing its effectiveness at night (sign light-up, distance viewing, attention getting). Most, if not all, projector beams have a mimicked European E-Code cutoff, meaning that they cut off like this __/__/, with the far right cutoff having the ability to light up roadsigns.

Done properly, with the right components, and patience... the setup is absolutely stunning.

i think that's the one from HIDtech.com, only with the lights painted black instead of silver. I could be wrong, but it looks like the same car:

It is. It is MisterMehoffs car. They did the retrofit and to my knowledge its the only one done. And he painted the lights black after he had it done for awhile.

I have a design made up. Hopefully it'll turn out ok. I have the '03 headlamps. I think they'll match up pretty well.

If I have this lookin' good, would anybody else want to follow?

I have a set of S2K's that im going to do when I find time. The question is what shroud to use to make them look oem? I haven't looked into it to much, but there are many to chose from and custom ideas too.
some idea - http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/view...=asc&start=225

Also GM look at hidplanet.com for color-modding them for a better cut off with more color. I have a set of TSX proj. and they look amazing after color-modding. Its easy to do, you just add washers look here for pictures.
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/view...tsx+mod+washer
Good luck with the retro can't wait to see pictures!

in my case, i used e46 shroud. i sanded it down and painted black.
for color modding tsx projector, just put 2 #8 washers on bottom each nipple.

Yes, it is I! MisterMehoff has risen from the grave to post once again.

Yes, I still have projectors on my car. They are not in bad shape. They are Bosch D2S projectors. I had to fabricate one long cap from 2 caps because the projector stuck about a 0.5 inch on the backside of the housings. I did a crappy job resealing thehousing when I painted the chrome housing black. I have since replaced my left ballast because it went bad.

I still get attention from the headlights because aren't sure what car I'm driving.

I'm actually looking for some used oem headlight housing because I want the regular headlights again. Anyone know where I can find some?
