Anyone do this brake upgrade?

I have an 03 CL-P. I saw a 06 TL A-Spec with the 4 Piston Calipers that say ACURA on them in black. I wanna do a conversion to my 03CL. I'm looking at the diagrams and it doesn't seem like there is a bracket on the 06TL Calipers to mount to the hub of the Rotors. Anyone know if this is possible?

I'd probably have to upgrade the Rotors too. And Pads.

i think you need at least 17" rims to clear the bbk. If you want to get the tl bbk, y not just get the rotora bbk?

I remember reading that it will not work due to a difference in the caliper brackets. If you want upgraded calipers use the 1st Gen NSX calipers. They don't say "Acura" but they say "NSX"

Why on earth would you want to do that? Just so your calipers can say Acura?

won't this cost as much as getting a brembo BBK?

Most likely yes. The calipers alone will cost you $660.

Also, the rotors are only 0.4" larger on the 3rd Gen TL. Not really a big-brake upgrade IMO. Plus add $150 for rotors plus adapting the caliper brackets and hubs to make it fit. What's the point?

Go with the Rotora BBK or just upgrade the rotors, pads, and lines.

I thought I read some where on here that to fit the TL-6speed calipers on our cars, you needed the '04TL auto brackets for the 6speed calipers and something else.

you could just powder coat the rotoras black.

IMO A C U R A looks cheesy on brake calipers.

Naaa, I like the OEM idea. Has anyone seen the fat ass calipers on the new RL? Now those I'd like to see work. How bout it?

Plus yeah, he could go out and buy Rotora, Brembo, Wilwood, blah blah blah...but look at the folks paying big bucks out the ass to have JDM...which as we all know is nothing but OEM on the other side of the Earth. Same shit in my book.

Here's the thing... if both products (3rd Gen TL upgrade and Rotora BBK) both cost the same amount. Yet the Rotora offers a better caliper, a larger rotor, and stainless steel lines.... why go with the 3rd Gen TL brakes if you could get better performance out of the Rotoras? Is the OEM and "ACURA" labeling that important?

We know the answer to that Steve. That's not really what I'm arguing. I think personally I'd lean towards the Rotoras, BUT at the same time...originality AND "some" increased performance sometimes outweigh the logical choice. Am I making sense? Alot of us have done it here and there. It's why we're car guys ya know.

If he did TRY and fail, I'd be the first to post with a "sorry it didn't work out". I remember when the K-series came out and folks said "it can't be done". Guess today I'm cheering for the underdog.

I'd love to sport new RL calipers. Too far behind on everything else to R&D that project though.

Off topic- Do you think a new Corvette Z06 engine will fit into a Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice?

haven't seem them but i'll have a look. I do wanna do just also because for resale value. Having ACURA parts as apposeto aftermarket.
But moreso just for myself. I'd rather have OEM foglights than aftermarket. I'd rather have OEM lip kit if they made it than aftermarket kit (not saying the Ronjon kit ain't nice)

Just like I'd rather have the ACURA rims than aftermarket, just to make it clean looking.

I am trying to achieve the idea of "Wow this car comes like this factory?"

I would suspect that you could go with just Rotors and Calipers and it would work. The Rotora BBK is the same for the 2nd Gen CL's, 2nd and 3rd Gen TL's except for the fittings on the steel braided lines. With this in mind, the mounting points must be the same.

I'm sure nobody saw that combo coming. LS1/2/6/7 in a Solstice. Badass I'm sure though.

I've never paid attention to the calipers on the 3GTL. Any pics? Someone should develop an RL caliper swap kit.

Hahaha, let's put RonDog on that.

Here's the thing. Lets assume they bolt right on. You are spending $800 for calipers that say "ACURA" and for rotors that are 0.4" larger in diameter.

I can think of much better ways to spend $800 on this car.

And if you are concerned with re-sale value. Go with the Rotora kit. I believe it's about $1,300. When you want to sell the car remove the Rotora kit and sell it for $800. You've only spent $500 vs. $800 for the Acura TL set up and meanwhile you enjoyed much better performance.

You can sell your CLS now....

Already built, tested and I think warrantied. It was featured and tested in Auto Week a while back. Here is the link http://www.mallettcars.com/solstice-conversion.htm

Yeah, Mallett does these and Hot Rod had a feature they were doing where they put one together with a kit on it, weight reduction and the Z06 powerplant. I bet that car is such a slug.

Just get a BBK, unless you do, you can't avoid the ghetto rotors. Even the sti, evo, z, g, comes wiht the wack asss rotors.

I looked into the same upgrade, the part numbers for the suspension arms are different. You may be able to rig something up but I wouldn't do that on brakes.

The parts guy at the dealership told me it was like atleast $4000 so it's not worth it.

So I gave up investigating.
