Hollowing the cat will set a DTC for cat deterioration as the secondary O2 will read similar gas content as the primary O2...unless you go to a rig job...check with Spiro on his Random Tech cat as an alternative...

Any OBDII system will have a primary (HO2S1) and a secondary (HO2S2) O2 sensors. The second one is simply there to validate the functioning of the catalytic converter.

So yes, the 1st gen was made 96 and later so it falls under the OBDII compliance.

Hollowing out your cat will make the car sound like shit. I know a couple of guys running straight pipes on their hybrid civics and they are REAALLY loud and annoying sounding. But i'll admit they sound pretty good when you get into vtec range. But there is no way you could stand that sound all the time. The cat is probably only worth about 5hp, I wouldn't bother messing with it.

my friend had a cl like yours cl power and he hollowed out his cat and only has an cai.....and his car moved but his check engine light would come on cuz of the gutted cat
