Any opinions from someone...

in my age group (way late thirties ) about the Comptech exhaust? I guess what I'm looking for is opinons from others that really don't like loud exhaust, just more aggressive tone. Some of the young ones don't seem to mind loud exhuast (no offense to anyone, please.)

I also realize the exhaust isn't a power mod per say, but more for looks, and sound. I've seen quite a few pics, and love the way they look. I've also read many posts about the tone, but any further evaluations are certainly welcome (no matter what age you are!)

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm glad to have found this board, as well as TL.com. Both fantastic resources. I ordered the Comptech system yesterday from Autocarparts.com after reading all the positive notes everyone has to say about Tim. Hope all goes well!

Jim

I was over at park ave dealer for something and outside I see Wayne inside his TLS. (He's got everything on that car). Anyways I just wanted a listen to the pipes. So I bend down close to the pipes and listen. At idle I don't hear much difference. So Wayne steps on the pedal and revs to about 3500rpm or so. At that point the sound gets deep. Sounds like an eight is under the hood. Very smooth, slight burble, a definite depth to the sound under higher revs. I'd like to get a listen under WOT. While not flashy the Comptech system looks good. My experience was limited to just a listen from outside but since I'm not 18 anymore I definitely liked the exhaust. Had I then had the beans I KNOW I would of bought it.

Gooid Luck
Rob

Just tipped over the 40 hill here, and I love the Comptech exhaust. The looks are great, but the sound is nice too. I characterize the exhaust sound as a nice, low burble at low RPMS (< 2500), especially if you lug around in D4/D5 most of the time like I do. I honestly can't hear it that much at all under acceleration...when the RPMs go up the AEM CAI starts screaming and it drowns out the exhaust note. But, I had a chance to hear someone else's car with the exhaust as they pulled away under medium acceleration and it sounded nice.

Overall, it's not very loud at all...nice tone...a bit like an understated V8.

DOOD, if you have the comptech mufflers, have your resonator removed!!! but only do this AFTER you have the comptech muffles! it sounds WAY sick, very very low sounding. i have this done to mine and everybody loves it. i also have the AEM intake coming soon to add on to the sick sound of flooring it.

believe me, have the resonator removed ONLY if you have the comptech mufflers and you will love the LOW PURE BASSY sound. only like 25 bux to remove it too

I have always hated exhaust that sounded loud I thought it made the car sound cheap (don't flame me) I have always like that quiet sound or sweet sound of Ferrari's and porsche's. But at the last Acura meet I heard the comptech Exhaust and it sounded so sweet. Inside the car it sounds awesome, I would def recommend it. You'll love it, I know I didn't want it and after hearing it I'm def. going to get it, If they have Oval tips. I'm 17 so all depends on preference.

The Comptechs sound great, dont even worry, they dont sound like those big fart pipes. They make the car sound like a true race bred machine. JMHO

I'm 26, I think it's too loud.
I heard the CAI and even though it's louder, it doesn't really hit till 5000 rpms or so.
I just hate droning sounds at freeway speeds.
Most exhausts will drone at 1500-2500 rpms.

What's wrong with our OEM exhaust? I haven't heard the Comptech (anybody got a link to a .wav file?). I'm not into loud--been there, done that (started with Stebro and went to custom on my'74 Z-car). I've read some posts about the 1-2 HP "gain" (LOL) from the Comptech exhaust in other threads, and until Borla comes out with something really sweet, ya gotta ask yourself, "is improved exhaust cosmetics with a subtle tonal change really worth $600???" Save your $$$ or use 'em for Koni Yellow shocks.

The Comptech exhaust is not all that loud, and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Borla to deliver anything better. If the question is Comptech exhaust or Koni sways, there's only one answer: BOTH!!!
