DOHC = Dual OverHead Cam. For each head, there are two camshafts. One acts on the intake valves, the other on the exhaust valves.

SOHC = Single OverHead Cam. For each head, there is one camshaft. It has both intake and exhaust lobes on it and therefore acts upon both sets of valves.

Thanks, you guys are dolls. The CL-S is SOHC- right? So, is that bad, rather is DOHC better than SOHC?

Yes, the TL/CL/-S are are SOHC. DOHC is more expensive and heavier, but usually allows the engine to rev higher.

A DOHC would not make much difference in our engines. A SOHC simplifies mechanics, and makes everything a little more compact. The DOHC is more likely to be found on a 4-cyl engine, as there is only one bank of cylinders. On a V-6, 4 cam shafts would be a lot of stuff in the engine.

SOHC: 3.2L 260hp type-s

DOHC: 3.2L 290hp nsx (3.0L 260hp nsx auto)

DOHC type-s would be nice...

What's the advantage of DOHC exactly? The Acura V6's already have two camshafts--one for each bank of cylinders.

Traditionally DOHC has allowed engines to a. have more valves and b. rev higher. Since the current Acura V6's do fine with 4 valves per cylinder and a 6900 RPM redline, I don't know what DOHC will add to the mix, besides more weight and another part to break.

Someone once posted a SOHC provdes more lo-end power ... a DOHC is more top-end. I would guess VTEC helps our SOHC at the top-end?

I wished our cars still had DOHC. My 92 Maxima SE had a DOHC and all the current generation Nissans have DOHC.
