Another S4 encounter

This time w/ an S4 Avant. A younger guy pulled up next to me at a stoplight w/ nothing but open road for miles ahead. Light turned green and he totally botched his launch and I actually got the jump on him!! Don't get me wrong, I have no delusions about being able to take S4's. I've gotten hammered by a couple of them, so I know what they can do. But anyway, he screwed his launch and I had him up to about 105 and the end of third. After that he eaisly walked away up to about 125 -130 and shut down. He did give a thumbs up and turned off. Love the CL, but next time around, I need to buy an S4, M3 or ZO6!!!

Seems to be a lot of variance in performance from car to car (S4 to S4). Some is obviously due to the driver, but I think a lot of these things are chipped. Chips are pretty cheap and will make a stock S4 into a beast (not that it's not already a damn fast car). Others have said that from a roll on the highway, we should be able to hang. With intake/exhaust, I guess I'm not all that suprised based on some other posts here. Either my car is slow, or I just manage to find the modded S4's more often than not.

I think it is also due to some being autos, and some being 6 speeds.

Good race. As for the varying performace with S4....I think some of it is to do with it being a forced induction car. Some run more boost than others in stock form. I was lucky enough to have a very strong car from the factory....I've seen others though that weren't so lucky....oh well, good race and be safe everyone.

4DR Assassin - Is the 1/4 time in your sig in a stock car? Damn, that's nice mods or not...getting close to those ever so holy 12's. Nice trap speed too...

4dr Assassin's car is SLOW. Only 13.1 !!!
: )

13.1 would most likely be Stage II or II+ - chip, exhaust, maybe downpipes.

13.1 is kinda movin' on out for a portly 4 door sedan!!!!

Just checked, that 13.1 was without downpipes, so could be high 12's with them.

Haus - that was with chip, cat-back, race gas and 19" wheels. No watering down ICs, pumping up tire pressures..just drove to the strip, put the gas in and made 3 passes. Only thing that disappoints me about the ET is I hit the rev limiter in 3rd before crossing the traps. I should have just short shifted to 4th and probably would have hit 13 flat. i was trying to be the first to hit a 12 sec pass without modified downpipes, but started having some issues with the car..so I gave up on it. Funny thing gis though, I don't go to the strip on a regular basis...just when I mod something. So when downpipes come which will be soon, I will be going back. A friend said he was running 8.7s on avg in the 1/8 mile and went to 8.3s with downpipes....and that's on pump gas. I usually run 8.6s to 8.5s so I can see 12s easily once I get dps. I'm just not trying to spend $1600 for pipes and $400 for install......I have a connection I'm working on so stay tuned. As for stock times, I only went to the strip once when I was stock. It was like 90 degrees...but I pulled a 14.1 @ 98mph. I'm sure if it was in the 60s it would have been a 14.0 if not 13.9. I really didn't know the car that well. Only had it for like 2 months at the time.

Ming - to be honest, my car was slow for a while there. I had a bad f-hose the dealer couldn't/didn't want to find which cause my turbo problems. Then APR released all that slow hardware...I should have never updated to v3.1 or v3.2...but v3.3 seems as quick if not quicker than the original EMCS software I first had. Even at 53k miles, it's still pulling like it did back in 3/2001 when I ran those times. I'm sooooo happy to have my car back to where it was...cause it's been a while.

Just wanted to give some props to guys like 4DR Assassin and MingT. Every car forum site gets alot dipshits with other cars bashing eachother, but it is nice when people can knowledgeably and respectfully talk about cars, races etc.

Thanks alot. Hey, I'm here to learn and give info. I like all cars...well, maybe not the Aztek. I hear you though....I don't know why people can't just have discussions without the bashing. If I could get paid good for talking about cars, I would.

Back when I had my CL-S (auto 5 speed), I always get my ass kicked by S4s. My CL-S is stock ... but I know that even w/ minor mods I still stood no chance. These S4s are freaking monsters on the road.

Thus far, only a 993 TT. It had some WIDE tires (300+ I believe) and accelerated like no tomorrow. Here's the story, a S4 is in there too. But, I believe that this S4 only had minor mods.

kevin034 - Nice story, sounds like a blast!

PS: I won't tell you my CL-S can run with an M3, S4 etc, etc :-) Love the CL, but your right, totally out of it's league when the big boys come to play!

Kevin...what a story...makes me feel like a little moron in my TL-S hehe...I assume you dumped it because of the tranny. Man...that is it...anyone got an extra 25k to put on top of my TL so that I can get an M car!?! It has always been my dream, but the TL cost oh...about half...so...

I loved my CL-S. But, the way I drive the car just didn't have enough in it to put up w/ me. The rotors needed resurfacing at around 20K miles (got it done w/ the service recall, so it was free). Then, at around 40K miles, the tranny started acting up on me. The scariest time ever was cruising at around 80 on the highway, I gunned it to pass but instead of going from 5->4, it felt like it went from 5th -> 2nd. Scared the LIVING JESUS out of me.

Had it serviced ... but 1->2 gear shifts started acting up. So, I decided that it was time for me to depart w/ my beloved CL-S. I miss the CL-S though, it was an excellent car, for all of it's 50505 miles with me!

I tried hanging with a stage 3+ S4 and my poor baby was struggling! I know the guy wasn't really pushing it either because I had to follow him home. I want one!

Yeah those S4's can really become a beast of a car! They have lots of potential.

With just chip and and exhaust it's pretty fast...not FUCKING fast, but pretty fast. Add a downpipe, world of difference. That car is probably low 13's car with chip, intake, exhaust, and dowpipes.

Yeah, I've seen a few in person that are mid to low 12 second cars...with upgraded turbos and all the other goodies you mentioned.

The downpipes will put the car in the 12s.....assuming good driver and mechnical condition.
