Another "DIY" project completed. Monitors in headrests.
I finished putting 2 5" monitor in the headrests. I have one installed a while back but I didn't like the result. The reason being my driverside headrest tilted forward and caused a problem if I flush mount the monitor. So I have to mount it like.
Today I found a way to compensate that problem. I managed to bend the 2 metal rods to make the headrests stand straight up. Below is the result.

It took me less than 2 hr to install the second one. The first one took me forever since I didn't know exactly what to do with the first one since it was my first time (ever) trying to install a monitor in a headrest.

The procedure is fairly simple.
1. Put the monitor on the headrest, trace the monitor's to the headrest. Cut headrest's cover (ouch ...so be careful) and the foam. Remove the foam to form a hole which is deeper than the monitor's depth.
2. Put a metal plate (Be sure the metal plate is at least .5in bigger (all around) than the hole.) with the edge cut zigzac (sp?) /\/\/\/\ (thanks Austin519 for the tip) in the hole. Secure the outter monitor trim to the metal plate.
3. Pop the monitor in.
The wiring is straight forward. Just connect the wires as directed by the instructions.
Cost of parts:
- 350 for the monitors ... I overpaid the first one (180+shipping) and got a good deal on the second (129+shipping).
- 2 metal plates / 80 cent from Home Depot.
Labor: 6hr for the first one and less than 2 hr for the second.

Do you have a screen head unit? Mind you, my headrest monitors get the Video signal from the screen.
