America Honda Financial Corp being sued...for racial issues

Linky here

Any African American or Latino who financed a purchase of a Honda or Toyota through a Honda or Toyota dealership, or any car financed by WFS through a dealership, since 1995, who paid a high interest rate on the loan (for example, an interest rate at an annual percentage rate of 10% or more) is likely to have been a victim of loan financing discrimination and would fall within the class.

One of many more reasons why automakers should pay more attention to the dealerships who sell their cars....

Me & my fiance applied for a new RC51 thru Honda last July & were not given the special finance(3.99%) rate. When I asked why, the dealer said he didn't know...said both credit scores were above 700 & we should've gotten it. He called Honda, some analyst tells him it's cause we're not married...

Can you say .... ILLEGAL??? That's a Big Time Fair Lending Violation....

Dealer gave me their number & I called them directly(BIG NO-NO). They wouldn't even discuss it. I ended up calling the division manager & he apologized profusely, especially after he realized I was a credit analyst myself... So, this doesn't suprise me one bit. I hope they get fried.

I read this yesterday about the case, http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...scrimination_2

"I feel cheated," said Michelle Thompson, a black receptionist from Oakland who has been paying $440 a month for a 1996 Honda Civic.

"We didn't even talk about financing," said Thompson, who's suing WFS Financial. "We just talked about monthly payments, what I could afford. That was my focus."

Joaquin Andrade, a Hispanic agricultural worker from Woodlake, paid 20.75 percent interest on a $6,500 loan he needed to buy a 1992 Chevrolet. The interest cost him more than $3,100.
I do feel bad, obviously the dealers should be ashamed of themselves for these practices. But, IMHO, I think these people were preyed on because they were stupid, not minorities...

I don't think it's based purely on the race. It's the racial background, finances specifically.

I mean, look at the "general" black population. Most are in poverty, and they don't exactly have a good reputation. Would you trust them, if you were a car company, with a 30,000-dollar car, or whatever the hell they bought? I wouldn't.

I mean, I'm not expert in this field. But I don't know if I would call it racism. Then again, what do I know?

"We just talked about monthly payments." You're basically begging the dealership to f*ck you in the ass. Worst thing to say when you're buying a car.

Then they can shut every dealer down, cause when you tell them what kind of payment you're looking for and don't question them, you're screwed and you asked for it !!

Hmmm Racism at a Car Dealership... Who woulda thunk it?

I will tell everyone like this I WILL NEVER BUY A NEW CAR!!!! I HATE CAR SALEMEN AND DEALERSHIPS! I have yet to walk into a luxury car dealership and have a salesperson offer their assistance. I was geared up and ready to get a BMW, but refused to get one due to their horrible customer service.

The bad thing about this is that if true it is not a high school graduate passing someone up due to race but an entire coorporation.

Now understand this, I keep an open mind to racism and rule it out until it is the only reason behind something. I honestly hope that this is not the case. But, if it is, I will be the first Black Person at the dealership looking for a car after the ruling goes through I should be able to make any deal I want to!

On a side note, I went to a Honda Dealership this weekend to look at a S2000 and the manager said that I could not test drive it on the highway! Funny thing is, it was used and the dealership sat on the highway!

You are a Class A BITCH!!!!

How about this, keep your mouth shut, racism is leaking out of it! Do you think about what you say before you say it?

To all of the super conservative republicans,

This is prime example of the ignorance that still goes on in America! You say that as Black People we are equal, but yet there are still many white people that don't look us that way. These condescending looks breed a harder life for Black People. The worst thing about it is that now, unlike the sixties, the racism is hidden so we find it hard to fight.

banks have no way of knowing ones race when reviewing a credit application.......the application is either approved or declined.........if approved, the approval is sent with a tier level or buy rate at which it is approved at.........the dealer is then allowed to "mark up the rate".........if the deal is closed on payment, and there is room to bump the rate......it will be, because its profit.......................find out the avg selling price of CL's to blacks and latinos verse that of white.........if you find out blacks and latinos paid $300 more per car is that racism....................this whole racism thing is getting old, yes im sure it still exists, but not to the point some would like to think

omg :sqntfawk: :thumbsdn:

Dude, that was the racist comment I might have ever read in all my internet surfing. DAAMN. That was pitiful.

Think that if you want to.
anybody who knows anything about auto financing will tell you this lawsuit is bogus and will be tossed out of court
Nope. This may be a 1st for Honda but I believe it has been brought to the courts before for other automakers.
this whole racism thing is getting old, yes im sure it still exists, but not to the point some would like to think
Typical comment from someone never discrimintated against.

1SLICKLEX>>>> if someone can tell me how you can base race of a name and social,......id really like to know......................id also like to see any recent proof of banks going to court on the basis that they charged higher interest rates to minorities.............and finally if you have any idea about auto finance you will quickly see how this lawsuit has no chance of lasting in court...............its crazy..........you said ive never been discriminated against, how could you possibly know this
