almost went to jail...

To answer another post i saw not too long ago... i got my brakes resurfaced and new pads last night under warranty at 30200 miles. I had been noticing pulsating at highway speeds so they did it under warranty..............anyway so after i got them done i wanted to check them out. For those of you that are familiar with NOVA you can follow along. I was coming out 66W from pohanka doing between 5-10 over keeping up with the flow of traffic. I got to my exit, 234 S, and went on my way. I usually make the first right but noticed there werent any cars at the light in front of me so I decided to check out the brakes at good speeds. So the light turns green and i ease out to across the street then punch it... dont know how much i got up to but noticed some minivan lights so started to slow down, at the same time i notice a car coming up quickly from behind and all of a sudden lights pop on. I get pulled over and the cop says i was going 95 in a 55, 40 over is well into the wreckless driving area. My detector never went off so i dont think he really got my speed other than a visual judging. He came to the car and said basically that he was going to wait for another car to show up so he could take me to jail for wreckless driving 40mph over the limit. He went back to his car (im scared out of my mind at this point) and about 20mins later comes back and asks for proof i was getting my brakes done... i give it to him and he leaves again for about 5 mins, comes back and says that i should keep it off the streets but seemed happy i did it on a back road and not in busy traffic, then lets me go without anything. As i was pulling away the other cop showed up but i just kept going.

That had to be the closest call I have ever had!!!! The courts take speeding real serious up here!!!! The cop said they could have put me in jail for up to 30days!!!

Moral of the story....umm.... i dont know!? Dont get caught going that fast and just because you dont see any other cars out there and your detector isnt going nuts doesnt mean you cant get pulled over and thrown in jail!!!!!

no... i have it kinda hidden on the visor.

i work in MD and it is legal there but i dont want to have to take it down every time i cross the line so i just put it in a hard to see place on the visor but it still has good forward and rear line of sight.

Of course, I'm sure that you KNEW there is a break in period for fresh rotors/pads so they can set in properly right?

Hmm.... I don't know about where you are, but here in Florida they have to get you on radar or laser. You can actually even ask to see their radar gun if you don't believe how fast they say your were going, and by law they have to show it to you.
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that if they don't catch you on radar here, the most they can give you is careless driving, which is a couple fo points and around $170 ticket.

Again, I'm not completely sure of this, it's just my basic understanding of Florida law.

Yeah...

Don't slam on the breaks after you just get new rotors installed! Just like a motor, they need some time to get adjusted.

i wasnt planning on "slamming" on my brakes... i noticed the pulsating at highway speeds so i was just gonna go drive between 60-80 and tapedy tap tap tap them a few times, a second or two at a time to see how they felt, if the pulsating was gone. does this seem like a bad idea?

I would try and keep any type of testing to a minimum for the first 100 or 200 miles on the rotors. Once you get past that, knock yourself out. Regardless if it's highway tap tap tapping. Just drive normally for a few days to make sure you don't fuck em' up.

Naw, they don't have to show you the speed on radar. I'd rather get a speeding ticket than a careless; insurance.

Dude, you are lucky; epecially after they say they're going to take you to jail...and then change his mind. Wow!

Anyway, we know this already. If you're going to speed, you gotta look out behind you. It's hard...especially when you're going that fast going forward...you have a tendency to fix ahead...looking several 100 yards in front.

I can remember at least 6 times when I was paced from behind by a cop and like the old saying says "they seem to come out of nowhere" even after you check there RV mirror every 15 seconds.

BTW, kinda OT if you think that's bad, a cop sneaking up behind you, how about when the cop is driving alongside you, you on the freeway, the cop on the access road, getting ready to merge onto freeway about 1/2 mile ahead and you finally look out the passenger side window going 90 and you see a huge star on the door....

Well......If they want to get u for a speeding ticket yea true. But take into consideration for the people who have radar/cloaking devices. Where if a pig tries to tag u all that comes back to him is 0.0 on the gun. So then what the porker does is write u up a ticket for excessive speed. With that ticket, proof of speed doesn't need to be varified. Those type of tickets are easily squashed by traffic attournes. But don't try taken those to court urself. The best that u could probably do is have the judge squash the points but u will end up having to pay the ticket 'and' court costs $$$.

LOL!!!

Haaa that once happened to me one the Turnpike here in Ft Lauderdale. I was doing like 60 (the speed limit) and saw a break in traffic. The break was all the way to the right, parallel to the on ramp. So I dipped into the right lane and gunned it. I then noticed a car closing in on the right side of my CLS, it was a merging car. I then noticed the "State of Florida" emblem on the side of the door with a state trooper staring right into my tinted windows with a look that I probably won't forget for some time. And with the quickness I let go of that throttle and let the porker pass me and merge . He passed me and then went on his way. I had to have been doing 90 when I saw him.
That was one of the luckest times I had. I knew that I could smoke him but I just let him fly. I mean he wasn't even in those new Camaros that some on the state pigs have. I mean really come on u know that I could have smoked him.

In reguards to speeding. The way that I do it is I usually travel 10-15 miles faster than traffic. And I don't race the moment I get on the freeway (yea I usually keep it to the freeway). After a few minutes of passing traffic and scanning ahead of me to see any porkers. I then usually find the dumbass who is will to race me in his Integra LS, who was stupid enough to spend $2.5K on engine work and not get a Type-R engine. But what I'm saying is that if u travel 10-15 MPH faster then traffic pigs won't be behind u unless they are going faster than 15-20. Because if u travel faster for a good 5-10 minutes u've buried any traffic that u passed behind u leaving any pig in the dust. Sure its not bullet proof but I haven't gotten pulled over in almost a year and that is un-holly for even me. I usually get pulled over "atleast" once a month. So sit and think about it.
