After 4 years XS header flex pipe leak

My car has gotten loud over the last few weeks. Well, there's a 3 inch slit in the upper area of my flex pipe for my XS headers.
Suggestions on a fix? Without replacement.
I was thinking header wrap, not sure if that would hold up since it's already leaking. Or maybe welding a plate over it.

You don't want to just replace the flex pipe? That's by far the easiest since you are already thinking of welding

I would just replace flex pipe for long run without worry.

I just replaced my flex pipe and turns out thats not where the leak is. Its still leaking. so i'm guessing its where the rear header meet the down pipe.

The funny thing is that the leak is very minor, so you cant hear it in neutral, only in a gear when the motor really has some load.

Mine is defiantly at the top of the flex pipe. I can feel the hot exhaust coming out of the hole.

Ok replace the flex pipe? With what exactly? The shop suggested I needed the complete down pipe to replace it. And since XS no longer is around I wouldn't find it new.

Take it to another shop. You need a new flex pipe with a 2.5" ID. Im not sure how long it needs to be though. They cut whats there out and weld a new one in. This should be long enough but if not search for 2.5" flex pipe and you should see all different lengths.

Its a tight spot because the O2 bung and the hanger are at both ends of the original flex pipe but any shop thats good can do it.

Its springy, so it still flexes no problem.

Thats using a donut flange. They have some give to them, but they arent as flexible as the braided flex pipes. It could possibly put more strain on the welds on the rest of the headers though.

If you can reinforce the welds on them it shouldnt be a problem.

Yeah that looks like crap. I don't think I want to do that. I decided I'm going to wrap the flex pipe with header wrap. A few layers should hold me over a while till I figure out other options.

^ header wrap is going to end up costing as much as getting a new flex pipe and getting it welded in.

The one on my Comptech headers is finally starting to leak. I think I'm going on almost 10 years. I emailed Comptech to see if they recommend any particular brand.

$75 later & I have a new flex pipe. No leaks & car is quiet again.
I just went to a decent local exhaust shop. They cut it out, put a new SS one in & I was done in 20 minutes.
