AEM intake
AEM intake
A couple of questions. First, will the same intake for the 2001-2002 fit my car. I am assuming yes. Secondly, anyone know where I can get one for less than $214. Lastly, living in Florida, do I need the air bypass valve? I thought I read somewhere that it slows you down.
it wont fit directly...you dont have VSA..but it could probablly be made to fit...i recomend the bypass valve..even if you take it off when its dry...i have one ,red, thinking of selling it...i want the comptech ice box when it comes out...im in pasco...we could meet some time and could check out what it would take to install one for you...
I don’t know what having VSA or not should have anything to do with it.
For the record, I haven’t installed MY intake yet, but the parts on the top look to be exactly the same as my 2001.
I’m not sure about the resonator, but I’m confident my Xephyr will fit.
I would say get the Bypass valve. It’s a cheap insurance policy.

If you're talking the 6-speed, you might want to call AEM up. I believe Scalbert was the first to notice that the removal of the VSA "throttle-killer" changed the look of the intake “piping”.
I'd call and check to be sure (just an opinion... don't know for sure)
I wrote about the bypass killing some power. If you want, you can get a 3" rubber hose to replace the bypass in the summer (if you care to). You will still lose a bit of power due to some turbulence, but there will be no chance of sucking in hot air in the dry summer months (when you probably don't need the bypass). (Notice I said DRY summer months, not monsoons)
As for getting it (or needing it) -- if you ever have driven in water up your bumper, you probably should get it to keep from blowing-up (hydro locking) your engine...
(Also, you might want to checkout the new Weapon-R stuff [as one more option])

As to the exact change and fitment -- could a call to AEM hurt?
OK….I understand, but I have the Xephyr style so anything from that rubber “boot” back doesn’t matter to me since the “X” design doesn’t replace those parts.
Mine should fit fine.
Not sure about AEM.

Shawn, thanks for the pic.
I found this (and there is probably a better pic around) and it looks like they (Acura) added some length to offset the "loss" of the VSA throttle.
(I'd call AEM to be sure...)

i see what you're talking about shawn...i installed my AEM the same way maintaining the factory rubber boot...from the looks of it ...it shouldnt be a problem to continue in this way...,but, i do see a problem with using the top part of the AEM where the vacuum lines connect, one vacuum line connects where the extension due to the absense of the VSA and one is on what looks to be a slighly shorter rubber boot...

OK, so much for that link and picture -- blech...
Upload city...
I guess I will just have to call AEM tomorrow. I don't want to order anything that isn't going to fit for sure. I am sure they probably don't even have any info yet. I will let you guys know what they say.
