Exactly why I ended up not getting the bypass w/ my AEM CAI and am taking my chance. Plus I hear the bypass makes it sound shitty and decreases the HP. I'd go without it IMHO and just try not to drive when it's pouring out or avoid puddles if you absolutely have to drive in the rain.

I've had my AEM CAI for several months and I haven't had any issues while driving in the rain.
I think the location of it on the CL will keep you safe. IMO, as long as you replaced all of the shields that are on there, you shouldn't have any issues with hydro locking.

Of course, this doesn't mean drive through deep puddles without worrying!

No need to put it on. it doesn't really help much at all. I have one, but it is used as a book stand, since it came free with my intake. I have heard that it negates the effect of the cold air intake.

As stated, you would have other problems if the bypass valve actually had to be used, meaning the front of the car sitting in a pool of water.

I understand that if you install the bypass, you void the AEM CAI warranty.

Personally, I wouldn't put that stupid thing on anyway.

but besides that, in the CL the filter is placed pretty decently high up, so you'd have to try to suck up water. Two of my friends have mustangs with CAI w/o bypass valves placed about the same height as where the acura cl's CAI would be and they have been through many rain storms here and they have not sucked up any water. But in my friends rsx his cold air intake stuck out of the bottem of the engine bay, so he definetely needed a bybass valve.

OOOOHHHHH Thanks for the input! I aleady cut the damn thing though and installed the bypass just to be safe! OH well! ANyways it looks kinda cool and as far as the it sounding shitty well mine sounds bad ass especially when the vtec kicks in. It seems it pulls harder in higher speeds to! Next thing to come is headers and exhaust!!

The AEM CAI for our CL's locates the filter at the bottom of the engine bay, not at the top. Maybe you're thinking of a short ram or CT Ice Box. The bypass goes at the top of the intake, maybe that's what you're trying to say?

Speaking of AEM CAIs, I just bought an '03 6SPD w/ an AEM CAI, and when first starting the car and then when I kill the ignition it "hisses" a little bit. Once I start actually driving the car, it goes away in a minute or two, but I want to make sure there isn't anything wrong with it. Any advice???

I thought it was a little bit above the road lamp, which I think is pretty high up. Then again my car is still in 4X4 mode. The one of my friends rsx was literally next to the ground.

Nothing wrong with that, my car does the same exact thing, I kinda like the hissing on the ignition off thing.

It sits level with the road lamp, right behind it, which is basically the bottom of the engine bay, as low as you can get without the air filter literally hanging below the front bumper. As long as you keep the plastic splash guard on it and make sure you don't go into any foot tall puddles it's fine.

Mine does the same thing and its a normal sound that occurs! You gotta love the fact that the engine is sucking up some shit like a $2 hooker on nickle night..

Now i am stoked because of the sound and next i am going to do the headers and I am sure that is going to change the sound dramaticly

Headers don't change the sound of your exhaust dramatically...dramatically would be like taking off your rear mufflers, using a racing muffler or 3, a high flow cat, and larger custom piping. All the while you have aftermarket headers on. CleanCL has a custom exhaust setup as do I.

Personally, I love the way the CL Type S sounds with CAI/headers/stock exhaust. It definitely changes the tone of the stock system but not dramatically. IMHO, I think it's perfect for a performance luxury coupe.

Being that it's a classy car, I'm not a big fan of throwing a louder exhaust on it. Not to mention, with a Type S, your gains from a cat back are minimal.

Totally with LH on this one. I say if you're interested in getting it a little deeper sounding go with some MagnaFlow's muffs, but otherwise you're wasting your money on a custom exhaust. Plus like LH, I love the sound of mine with just my AEM intake and XS headers.

It's funny how people want to make our CL's sound like muscle cars. It just doesn't go with what the CL is. We're not a CTS-V, and even though those have a sweet exhaust note, it's not obnoxious, it's just deep and lovely. Luxury-sports really shouldn't be heard from two blocks away, but that's just IMO. Everyone's different and has different intentions, but you're never going to get a CL to sound like a Stang or a Vette unless you convert it to RWD and drop a V8 in it.

The only reason I will be changing my mufflers is because of my RJ lip.

The by-pass valve is not needed in my opinion. The intake sits behind the roadlamps in a safe area above some panels.

Does anyone know the K&N air filter party number for the AEM intake??

My V2 intake doesn't have a bypass valve and i've hit some big puddles by accident without any problems
just be smart and try to avoid them if possible and you should be good to go.

Which brand gives the best HP gains? This may be the only performance mod I do... I've searched "intake", "cold air intake", "best cold air intake", and about 10 other phrases searching for some sort of general consensus and I either get too many, too few or results that are too vague. Help a newbie out...
