You should do a search on this. It has been debated and discussed many, many times.

Personally I went with the by-pass. The chances of hydrolocking your engine without it are very, very low.... but I still prefer the safeguard of the by-pass. For $45 you're protecting your $6k+ engine.

As for performance loss.... most people don't think there is any, however, there are some that do. There's no proof either way... but if there is any loss at all, you're talking about 1hp or less. Still worth it in my book..... I'd wait for it to come. You bought it, so what's a few more days? Then you can install the by-pass and intake in one shot!

I ahve had both with and w/out a By-Pass on my 1st gen.. It does NOTHING.. I think it make have saved me once driving throughh a large puddle, but who knows for sure.... I cannot figure out how it detects water etc... so I said fawk it... besides unless you driving through MONSOONS... you do not need it... thats why there is oil in your filter!!!!

Valve is here so I will install it tomorrow. Got a question tho, there is a plastic ring inside the valve, on my valve the ring was riding up on the side of the inside foam. Is it supposed to be like that? Should I let it sit in the middle all the way around?

FYI....AEM recommends that you not use the valve at a racetrack or dragstrip.

It should be in the middle all the way around. It is just there to keep that sponge secured. Have fun with the install.

What are we suppost to do with the hole in the pipe if we take off the valve for the track? Btw, I'm going to the track tomorrow.

Get a silicome joint similar to the one that hooks the top end of the pipe to the throttle body. That will work.

yeah...why is that? I don't see how driving on a dragstrip is any different than accelerating hard on an on ramp.

If aem is saying that, then it sounds fishy to me.
