You should do a search on this. It has been debated and discussed many, many times.
Personally I went with the by-pass. The chances of hydrolocking your engine without it are very, very low.... but I still prefer the safeguard of the by-pass. For $45 you're protecting your $6k+ engine.
As for performance loss.... most people don't think there is any, however, there are some that do. There's no proof either way... but if there is any loss at all, you're talking about 1hp or less. Still worth it in my book..... I'd wait for it to come. You bought it, so what's a few more days? Then you can install the by-pass and intake in one shot!

I ahve had both with and w/out a By-Pass on my 1st gen.. It does NOTHING.. I think it make have saved me once driving throughh a large puddle, but who knows for sure.... I cannot figure out how it detects water etc... so I said fawk it... besides unless you driving through MONSOONS... you do not need it... thats why there is oil in your filter!!!!

Valve is here so I will install it tomorrow. Got a question tho, there is a plastic ring inside the valve, on my valve the ring was riding up on the side of the inside foam. Is it supposed to be like that? Should I let it sit in the middle all the way around?
