AEM Brake Upgrade Info From SEMA

I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet...so, sorry if this is old news. Anyhow, I spoke with a gentleman from AEM and he stated that we should expect about 2 months before they have the large AEM rotors available for our car. I saw them there on an RSX and they looked awesome! They also changed their design a little. The rotors are no longer drilled and slotted, unfortunately. They will only be offered in slotted, but still cool nonetheless. He said they update their webpage often, so just check back there periodically for updates.

-Aaron

BTW, SEMA WAS AWESOME!

That sounds sweet. I figure by springtime next year to add pulleys, RES, brakes and 235 tires. Now if only a bodykit wuld come out that would be a sweet ride.

Ah, if we could only shave a couple hundred pounds off of the front end we'd really have something here!

It wasn't me, but yeah, they're hella expensive! Look to spend around $450- $500 for fronts only. Thats a lot of loot for two rotors, and two caliper relocation brackets.

You forgot to mention the labor cost of the insallation of the brake costs. I would be a lot of dough.

I would gladly shell out 400-500 for a significant improvement in braking.

I agree w/JZ. Figure 3-4 hours worth of labor to install the brake kit.

That's really a problem on the CLS?

So all the AEM kit offers is two new rotors . If thats all I'm probably not going to get it. Tim offers cross drilled rotors off of ACP...

give me a brake, er, break...

you have to pull the stock calipers to swap the pads anyway, so how much more work is it to pull the rotor at the same time? it isn't like you need a "rotor puller" or some weird-ass specialty tool.

Don't get your hopes up about them being ready within the next couple of months, that would be a pipe dream. Think more along the lines of a minimum of 6 months if ever. The brake kit hasn't even entered the development stages.

Rotor R&R is about as easy as it gets. Just make sure you've got an impact phillips screwdriver (for getting those nasty little screws out.) Not a problem on a low milage car, but the longer the road use, the more rust that gets in those little babies.

If you guys want better braking, try my setup. I think it's far better than what the car came with originally. It's not ready for the circuit, but a great street setup. Any it only cost about $110.00 retail for the pads (fronts and rears,) and an hour of your time.

I've got about 500 miles on the fronts, and 300 miles on the rears. Bedding is just about complete. Todays driving adventures in braking were, to say the least, more than adequate.

Just my .02

Jim

I'm not tied in at all, but one of my very close friends does R&D for them. I told him that someone posted on the site about the brake upgrade coming out within the next 2 months. He chuckled and said that is was news to him. The brake upgrades for the rsx and wrx will definitely be released first.

They had a set of the RSX AEM brakes on an RSX at SEMA. They did say they're not quite ready to release them now, but will be out shortly. From what he said the rotor is the same as the CL, it's just some different brackets and such.
