Acura touch up paint help.

I noticed 2 very small chips on the back corner of my trunk lid. The only way they could have gotten there, is the delaer did it when they installed the spolier. Now I have a little rust there. I bought some Acura touch up paint from the dealer.(Silver) I tried 3 times to fill in the little chips with the paint. Each time is seems to either wash, or come off. The paint is also very watery. Is this normal? Can I add anything to the paint to make it thicker? Is it bad paint? The chips aren't a problem visually. I just want to prevent any rust from getting under the paint & turning this into a real problem.

shake it up good...then put on at least 3 layers keeping at least 10 - 20 minutes of airdry time between each layer...i'd avoid washing the area for about 24 hours

I bought something called 'Rust Avenger' made by 3M from Griot's some time ago. I also bought the touch up paint + clear coat from PaintScratch.

The base of the scratch gets treated with the 'Rust Avenger'. Supposely, this turns any rust into a primer coat (which is a nice dark brown black color). After you let that dry, apply the paint (in layers), dry, then apply the clear coat layer. Wet sand as necessary.

I used this system on my one scratch and it worked nicely.

I couldn't find the 3M stuff on Griot's. Maybe they don't carry it anymore I'm sure 3M products are available elsewhere on the internet.

I did that. 3 different times. This paint is like water man. I think it just didn't stick.

Make sure you remove any wax/zaino from around the area that you treat. You need to use rubbing alcohol or paint prep to strip that stuff off.

I just used alcohol on a cotton detailing cloth and removed the polish for a few square centimeters around the scratch.

I think the runny touch up paint is common. Mine was the same way. I thickened it up by letting it sit for a day or so, it seperates with a clear layer forming on top and the color on the bottom. I just poured out about 1/2 of the clear stuff on top. Its much thicker now and does a better job. Hope this helps.

Yeah it's along the passanger side of the trunk lip up near the spoiler. Looks like it was knocked when the dealer installed the spoiler.
Flint.. I'll try that. See if it thickens up a bit. I'd rather not spend more money on more paint if I can make it work.

I've had trouble with the Acura silver touch up paint, too. I've had good luck with Dupli-Color.
