Acura Tech people....

I just checked my oil and it's a little less than a 1/8"above the top dot on the stick. Is this bad? Do I need to drain some oil? Thanks.

The oil is supposed to be between the two dots. Small variations are OK, as long as its not bellow the dot.
Also, the trick is to check oil at the right time.
Your engine must be warm. Once you stop a car, you need to let it stay for 5-10 minutes, then check your oil.

Does your oil really black in color. If color is OK, I would just add more oil to the required level.
Just go to pep-boys and get 5W-30, or whatever is the recomended oil, unless u already use synthetics, then I would only mix it with synthetic oil.

I would not concern myself too much with such a small overfill. It may be a pint over but it should not make difference .Jens

I put in 5 quarts for an oil change. I think it only requires 4.5?? Mine is always a little over the top mark. You motor will consume some oil anyways.

A friend has a new A6 2.8. That thing 'consumes' over 2 quarts between oil changes. The oil light is always coming on. According to Audi, that is with in spec.

That's nuts if that audi uses 2 quarts between changes. Within spec or not I would be very dissapointed. My car uses no oil between changes, zero.

Correct me if I'm wrong folks, but I thought regular Q-state oil is parafin wax based. Like pennzoil is. Parafin based oils, from what I have heard are garbage. I've heard from multiple mechanics that they have opened up motors that have had parafin based oils used in them and found all sorts of crappy waxy buildup. IMO, stay away from parafin based oil. I'm would think both Q-state and pennzoil make non parafin based oils also.

BTW, my original question has been answered, so let the thread drift where it may...
