Acura Dealer Refusing to Replace Rotors and Pads Under Warranty

My 2001 CL-S was in for warranty service for the last few days and one of the many items I had listed was check the front rotors-they were warped again. The first time I took my car in for this was around 15K miles or so. At that time they justed turned the front rotors and kept the same pads. Now the car has 49,250 miles and the service advisor at the dealer is refusing to replace the rotors and pads that are still UNDER WARRANTY due to the mileage!!! What gives? Has anyone else had a similar problem. Is it an individual delaer problem or Acura as a whole? I am not a happy customer at all right now. I'll be talking to the service manager tomorrow to find out why a warranty service claim on a previous warranty service claim is not covered.

Rotors and Pads are not covered by the limited warranty that comes with the car. The first time he turned your rotors for free can be called a "one time curtesy" move. That's what my dealer did (only he changed pads too on my car). Though he did tell me he wont do it again for free. Try a different dealer.

Well, my dealer has replaced the brakes / rotors at 13K & 32K. So it is not a one time deal. Though leaving it till 49K+ is sure to create a bit of a problem....

Jens has said that Acura is getting on dealers about repeated warranty work, & as a result are doing alot of things one time only or "good will" My dealer resufaced my rotors after much compaining cause the car was lowered & they refused to do it at first too. Then they gave in & did a one time thing. I'd just forget about stock crap & get some aftermarket rotors & pads & be done with it. That's what I'm going to do. You don't have to go all out, just a nice set of Brembo plain stock rotors with some good pads is all you need. You could get all the parts for under $300.

I have had 3 new sets of front pads and i new set of rears under warranty.

they turned the fronts twice and I bitched that they couldn't be turned a third time due to tolerances, so they replaced them.

ANy dealer can call Acura a try to get this covered "if they pitch you may buy another acura to replace this"

This little inside comment was given to me by an ex acura service advisor who is a friend....

I just took mine in for this exact work done. Mine is just over 22K. I asked them exactly what they are going to do to it, the service guy said he didn't know until he looks at it. I sure hope they do more than just turn the rotors and keep the same pads. :S

Side note: I got a TSX as a loner. I like it a lot! Eventhough it's only an automatic. :o

Took a look at the Service Bulletin and just realized it also said 'updated pads.' I didn't remember them ever replacing my pads, just resurfaced my rotors. I had this done May 2002.

I gave the service advisor a call and said that my rotors are at it again and that I was looking at the service bulletin that states to replace pads as well. She looked up my history and read it to me..."resurface rotors per SB..." something like that. She told me no problem and wanted to setup an appointment.

This would be good timing since I need to replace my pads..hee hee. I'm also going to do the 45K service. They should hook me up.

Got my car back yesterday. The resurfaced the front rotors, and give me new pads. The also did a TSB on the windows. (I didn't even know there was anything wrong with them)

However, the service guy didn't say anything about breaking the new pads in. Is there anything I should be aware off?

Well....after lots of complaining to the service manager, he brought the issue to the attention of the district service manager and here is what resulted from my complaints:

They gave me new updated front rotors under warranty. I had to pay for a new set of updated pads and a half-hour of labor to install. Total out of pocket cost= just over $100.

I was OK with this, given the fact that I had almost 50K on the car. However, during my last oil change at my mechanic at 48,750 miles, he stated that the front brakes still had about 50% left on them. The Acura delaer was really surprised by that. I wasn't...considering that I drive a lot on the highway and don't rank on the brakes.

In the end, a few words of wisdom:
The squeaky wheel always gets the grease!

Escalate complaints up the hierarchy until you are satisfied!

i got the same bs - "mileage too high" although i complained about the warpage problem since the early onset with low miles - it just depends on the dealer unless you want to force the issue. i thought it was not worth my time...

i took my cls in at 49.9k miles, had them give me a new leather seat, new leather aroudn the steering wheel and resurface/replace rotors and pads.

It wasnt an easy battle. This is my 3rd time my rotors have warped. I told them to fix it under warranty. At first they wouldnt, they said they would resurface the rotors for free, but i'd have to pay for the pads.

I tried to argue w/them, cuz if they wouldve done it right the 1st few times, I wouldn't have warped rotors again.

So I agreed to pay for the pads, but when i went to pay, the invoice the cashier gave me to sign said $0. hahahahah...suckers!!

so basically i got it all done for free.

just bitch to the service mgr and see what he/she can do. if they aren't willing to do it, take it somewhere else.

I'll be honest, i don't see where they should cover pads at 49,000 miles - rotors, gray area because you had them done once before.

as far as aftermarket pads, depending on what kind you get, you may experience noise/squeaking,

all cars go through rotors and pads, some quicker then others. Some dealers will do a courtesy change for you some won't. It's up to them to decide.

That's just great--you complain and you agree to pay half the cost--The dealer makes a mistake on the bill and you don't tell him because it benefits you. I'm sure you would do the same if they overcharged you! That's dishonest and pitiful IMHO.
Just remember--what goes around comes around.

did it ever occur to you, that during the repair, they just decided to replace your pads with everything else, things like that have happened, maybe they were cracked, wearing uneven or something

Same here. No questions.

Now if they would only fix all the damn rattles I have! Every time I bring it in they can't seem to find any. When I drive with my windows open people on the sidewalks can hear the rattles. Children laugh at me. I'm giving up on this issue. I realize that any car is going to start making noises. It's the nature of it. But this is ridiculous. I expected more from an Acura.
