Acura CL Navigation-GPS Wire Harness
Acura CL Navigation-GPS Wire Harness
Hello all,
I have an '03 CL (premium - non-navi) and I recently purchased all the parts to install a factory navigation system:
1) GPS Screen
2) Navigation/Trunk DVD Unit
3) GPS Antenna
4) Dashboard Bezel for Nav unit
5) Climate Control
I did not understand at the time that my car was not wired for navigation and this would be such a problem. I cannot find the wire harness for the rear trunk unit to the front dash anywhere on ebay or parts websites. Can anyone help me here??? What do I need to do, what do I need to get? Is there any way I can complete this factory navi project without ripping through my entire car and spending thousands of dollars??
Thank you!!
Michael

We're any of these components purchased WITH connectors or pigtails? Usually when a used electrical component is pulled at a salvage yard, they simply snip the harness 4-6" back from where the connector plugs in and includes that with the purchase. If you don't have ALL of these, you have 3 options:
1. Buy all harnesses from dealer (3 harnesses total I believe). Cost factor: $$$$
2. Buy all harnesses used from salvage yard or privately (eBay). Cost factor: $$$
3. Make all harnesses yourself using a connector repair kit available from Acura. This can be very difficult depending on your skills and knowledge. Cost factor: $
I personally suggest option 2 if you thought your car already had harness provisions that were pre-existing.

Remember, this is a navigation system designed in 1999. Your cheapest TomTom or Garmin these days is vastly superior.
I'd sell what you have and go with an aftermarket system. You'll be MUCH happier. I have factory navi and use TomTom on my phone instead because most of the time the factory navi can't find the address. Or it'll make you go right, go left, go right, go left, go right, go left, go right.... when it could just say go up 8 blocks and take 1 right and be done and there much faster. Every time I have used it, you get where you're going and then realize that there was a MUCH faster way. Updating the maps won't resolve this issue as the problem is the routing software itself rather than the newer maps with some new roads.
I'd sell my factory navi in a second if it meant someone would uninstall it and put in an aftermarket unit in it's place.
