If you have an intake you can hear it....but if not..it's a little harder...look in FAQ..it has the photos and stuff to see if your actuator is working.

What is really sad, is, If I were to trade my CLS for a Lexus and some poor fool says "Look, an Acura Type S" and buys it, THEY WOULD NEVER KNOW THAT THE ACTUATOR IS BROKEN ! Think about it ! NO code shows up at the service dept. Dealership barely know about this VERY ISOLATED problem........Lordy lordy.......

Ah, come on... It isn't a big deal now. Try being the first to determine it is faulty:

Run the tests in the Helms, look through the diagrams for the circuits to see if it should respond in park or neutral. Look through the DTC codes to determine it wouldn't show up. Compare dyno plots that show a difference starting at 3800 revs on from working IMRC systems to non-working systems. And finally document this to the dealer in a manner that warrants investigation.

But hey, in the end it is now easily determined. Plus it is easy to check, even monthly. Although it shouldn't need to be done, but we do check our tire pressure every week don't we??

Rise, we do an actuator check at every Sacto. meet. Not a single problem yet ( knock on wood ). You should check one of our meets out, we'll show you what to look for.

I'd be careful what you say! Seems like everything comes in twos. Me, two actuators, rotors machined twice... if I was keeping this POS any longer than next April I'd probably go through two trannies as well.

My actuator failed on me

It's REALLY noticable when you have a CAI cuz when you're BELOW VTEC range and suddenly hit VTEC, the noise level suddenly becomes extremely loud.

Wuzzup w/ Acura not checking every actuator?

Look behind the engine towards the firewall and down a bit (or look at the FAQ and see the picture). Look down there while another person revs the engine up to VTEC range and you will see the actuator move. It's pretty easy to notice. If you see something move than your actuator is probably working.

Dont you just rev the car, and if you see a little pully like move in the bakc of the engine about around 4000 it will switch direction

Stand on driver side and push open throttle, at 3800 rpm you will hear the actuator wheel click quite distinctly! If you don't hear the click or see the actuator wheel turn your down to 225hp from 260hp stock! Actuator is at the back middle of engine towards the firewall. Again check out Chods's FAQ!

I pick up my car this morning at 10:00 a.m. The leather seat shop was late in returning the car.
Here's what was done:
Driver seat: Leather ripping wide open
Passenger front seat: Leather stitching came loose
Panel under steering wheel broken, which created a lovely rattle": replaced
Floor mat holder popped out, replaced
**2nd new Actuator motor**: replaced
All under warranty.
Oil/Filter, tire rotation, eye ball inspection:;$48.00

BTW: I got a 2000 Integra loaner !

:P

Mike Harvey is in Burlingame, right off the Broadway Exit....they're cool...an authorized Comptech dealer...so they don't really hassle you about mods...

You work at Redwood Shores?? So, does bobowah....I'm sure you must have seen his black 99 TL sitting on chromes, tinted out...

Wow, just picked up my car ! I really don't think they changed the actuator motor last time (the first time) because I burned rubber leaving the dealership and was not intended ! Point is, she runs like the day I bought her.

OK wise ass BSK101 (just kidding), well I drive somewhat like granny, but do WOT when needed ! I was an EMT years ago. Was one of the few who passed a State Police driving course to be cert. to drive an abulance in Louisiana, so I DO DRIVE FAST IF NEED BE. I am NOT afraid to haul ass, I just don't do it all the time ! And NO, I don't do that job anymore ! I couldn't handle guts and blood, as I did when I was alot younger .........

YOUR ONE HAPPY CAMPER !
