Accord: Engine revs when break is pushed hard

Got a question for you car gurus out there. I was driving my friends 2000 accord EX the other day and while stopped at a red light I pushed down on the break pedal really hard for no real reason and noticed that the further I pushed the higher up the RPM's would go on the tachometer -- up to 3.5k or so. It was reproducable every time. It didn't do this in the normal position, only if I pushed it really hard. I never noticed this on my old accord or any other car for that matter. I guess it could have something to do with the break system pulling extra juice from the alternator causing the engine to rev high? Just seems strange to me... is this any kind of problem?

i've got kind of a stupid question, but does he have aftermarket pedals?

if so, were you catching the gas pedal at all?

i ask because imanidiot ...and the morning after i put on my pedals, i came to a stop sign behind a motorcycle, breaked hard, caught the gas pedal with my foot on the way down and almost rear ended the guy. made a terrible sound too (imagine that)

after i stopped sweating, i readjusted my pedals to be farther apart...

other than that, maybe some electrical problem?

A slight increase (momentary) of engine rpms is not unheard of as the engine needs to accomodate the loss of vacuum in the intake manifold. This happens solely due to the fact that our brake boosters are operated by vacuum but a jump to the rpms you indicate is not normal. As was asked before check to see if the pedals are possibly being applied at the same time or the carpet is somehow catching the accelerator.Barring these common problems something is not right with the car but check the dumb stuff first before you go and raise a ruckus at the dealer.Jens

Thanks for the replies guys. To answer the question about after market pedals, no they were stock.... but I do wear pretty big ass shoes so its possible my foot was hitting the gas. Ill check to make sure the gas pedal is not moving. As far as a momentary jump in RPM's... it didn't do that it actually would stay reving until I let off the brake.
