Accident- Semitruck Vs CL-S
Driving today on 495 east/LIE about to get off at the Grand Central Parkway/678 and what do I see but a semi truck flying up on my ass. I have my turn signal on to get into the right lane but the car in the right lane slows down so I can't get over.
Sure enough the truck makes the assumption I am getting over and just keeps on the gas. So I can't go right and then my car gets hit and I feel my front 2 tires lift off the ground and hear them lay tire as the car lands.
I look in my rear view mirror only to see my trunk covering it. I pull off onto the median and here is what I see.

So is my car a goner, doesn't seem to be any frame damage?
Oh well, thats what insurance is for.

Not really, he asked why I braked. He was like, "Papi, why did you hit your brakes, if you didn't do that, it would have been fine"
At that point, I was about to take my busted off bumper and crack him across the face like Tommy Boy.
I just ignored it, went to my car, called the cops, got the insurance and sat in the car till the cops came.
I still don't know where my spoiler went, he hit me so hard
A.) It exploded into nothing.
B.) Its sitting 3 blocks over in someones yard.
As for my neck hurting, thats no joke, my back and neck are all messed up, just came from the emergency room.

Ha, sorry, if my car is totaled. I'll be buying a beater and putting a reserve on an 09 g37x. Unfortunately, new Acuras have lost their way and so I might be moving away from the family.
But I honestly have to say I love my CL-S. Its my traveling car with 163k miles on it and I just dropped a pretty penny in the past 3 months because I planned on keep this thing till the wheels fell off.
$600 for timing belt (3 months ago)
$700 for new tires (1 month ago)
$200 for new rotors (1 month ago)
Unfortunately, it looks like the wheels are intact, but the rear end is gone.
Damn semis

Honestly, it looks bad from the pictures. But I got underneath the car and it seemed like none of the solid metal panels besides the external ones are bent.
The suspension seems fine and the car actually ran without making a lot of sounds. I dont know, Im not a body specialist but the adjuster is coming out in the next few days.
I just don't know what to do, if they total it out. I have 4k worth of mods on it which I could easily get 1,500 for if I part them out. I know the insurance company isn't going to take all of this into account if they decide to junk it out.
Im a little loopy right now, the hospital gave me a valium and I'm a little out of it so my messages might not make sense.

If my insurance company offered me $3500, I would punch my adjuster right in the liver. My car is in excellent to very good condition.
The adjuster for totaling out is suppose to take 2 factors in coming up with a price.
1.) Kbb RETAIL value-- Thats a huge point.. not the private party price
2.) They go online to places like autotrader and see what kind of prices a 2001CL-S are going for in my area.
They take the average of these 2 and come up with a price. If I didn't get atleast 7-8k I would be mad.

OUCH bro that really bites. But who cares if the car is totaled right? At least you are in relative good condition from what you say. You could have very well looked like your car. Glad you are okay.
The g37's are really nice cars too hope you can get it.

Thanks, first priority is health. It happened at 530 am and there was relatively little traffic. If he didn't hit me straight on in the back, he could have spun me out and if there was heavier traffic, it definitely could have been much worse.
But unfortunately, Im not a NYer I am here for work, I live in Pittsburgh and have no idea what to do with my car.
As for the G37, Im not looking for another coupe. Im waiting for the g37X sedan, suppose to have a 7 speed tranny, thats whats been holding me back. I hate the gearing on the current X, only 5 speed, Revs at 3200 rpms at 75mph.
Oh well, thanks for the concern. All I know is the CL is a very very solid car, extremely safe.

If it is a decent insurance co. they should give you an amount to replace the same car that was toataled. go to autotrader.com and print a buch of cars that are as close to yours as possible and when the insurance co comes @ you with a wack offer show them what it will cost to get you back into the same car. If you have your receipts for the mods get them out too.

Its Geico, one thing I learned is that its not worth it to go cheap on insurance. Yes it may save you a couple bucks, but it can be a life changing thing if you don't have enough insurance when the day comes when you have to use it.
My fiancee got in a head on accident in her CL about 1.5 years ago, she had a 2002 CL-S and the girl who hit her had Safe Auto and only 10K in property coverage. My fiancees car was totaled out at 18k. Guess where the other 8k came from, Geico had to sue the girl personally for the rest.
Also, my gf got whiplash and had to do rehab, she felt so bad for the girl (she was a college girl) that my fiancee didnt even press charges for pain and suffering.
But she had Geico too and they were VERY reasonable in their offer, no lowballing at all.

Wow. this car is fkd.
wait for a couple of days and see if u have back/neck pains. if u do, make sure u get a lawyer.
also, r u getting rental from ur insurance?
if yes, then ur in luck.
u can keep declining their low ball offer and tell them that u'll keep driving the rental until u get a reasonable amount for ur car.
They'll get tired of paying for the rental eventually and give up.

Damn sux man hope u recover well! I hate thoes kind of drivers that just are plain dumbasses, the kind that slow down or cut in front of u and make u go their speed. I just dont understand thoes kind of drivers. I know they know what they are doin, they just dont care. Those kind of drivers motto is " I have a vehicle on the road and I have just as much of a right on the road as u do"!! Fuckin bitchasses, I run into them all the time even got a speed ticket due to another driver cutting in front of me and slowing down, and sure enough a cop saw me goin a little over the limit as I was passin and u know what happened, all bc of the dumbass other driver. Hang in there bro

one of the first priorities of an insurance company is to get you out of a rental asap --- so if you dont take their offer they may just say "this is all were covering" and then its up to you to take them to court or the driver/company etc... but its not really a chance/risk you want to take of not being compensated for your rental...
Some guy hit my SUV and the insurance "found out" somehow that i have an extra vehicle (the CL), so they are denying my rental coverage on the basis that the SUV is driveable --- when in fact while arguing with the adjuster she asked "why dont i just drive my second vehicle" before she told me they wouldnt be covering the rental anymore...
bottom line, dont settle with an unreasonable amount, but dont keep driving the rental hoping they will give you more money... unless you are willing to fight til the death and try to recoup 2 months worth of rental fees... + the amount youre willing to settle with
hope it works out for you in the end...

I have a 2008 TL that I have for my car at home when im not traveling 700 miles a week, but it is a lease so there is no way I can use this car to replace my CL since I drive 40k a year. But I will accommodate the insurance company and deny a rental because in the long run, most adjusters take this into account and will work with you.
Getting a rental isn't a big deal, I'd rather be driving my 2008 TL instead of a 2008 chevy malibu.
As for the tires and wheels. Man they are BRAND NEW, honestly I think they are some of the best all season tires Bridgestone Turanza Serenitys. If I had to recommend a tire it would always be these tires. I have driven through so many typhoon like storms and I barely ever slip.
Oh well, I am torn if I hope my CL is fixable or not...

sucks dude.
but at the end of the day you were rear ended.
your insurance company has absolutely nothing to do with it. you can get a rental all you want because the truck driver's insurance is paying for it. your insurance company does nothing but file a claim on your behalf.

Sorry for your loss. The car will be totaled. The main thing is that you're not disabled and hurt bad. But make sure you have your neck, back and head examined by your doctor. Things like that usually come back to hurt down the line. I pray you are alright and get another CL to stay in the family.
