Accelerator pedal sticking...

Hi,

I purchased my 2001 cls last month and I have noticed that the accelerator pedal sticks sometimes especially in the morning when it has been sitting over night.

I am very familiar with engines, so I suspect that there is some carbon build up inside the throttle body where the butterfly wings open and close. I could probably take care of this problem myself, but I would rather have acura do it. Is this covered under warranty. I purchased my car certified, with a 1 year (12,000 mile) bumper to bumper warranty.

Thanks for your time...Kevin

Could be a couple things as I had this problem. They will most likely try to oil up your throttle cable saying that it's dry, but tell them to check the tb itself. I had mine replaced 3 times b/c it had warped.

Mine was done under warranty at 24,000 miles.

Along the same lines, mine only sticks when starting up from a standstill in 1st gear (I have a 6 speed), but is fine in all other gears. If I tap the gas prior to letting the clutch out, it's fine. Would this be related to the throttle body as well, or something different?

Mine did this on a couple really cold mornings after sitting for 48hrs, since then no problems, maybe I will add it to the list for the next dealer trip.

I had a similar problem. I fixed it by lubing up the pivot points on the accelerator pedal.

I have experienced the same problem from day 1 with my CLS. About every 6 months (10,000 miles or so), the throttle will stick when cold. I take it to the dealer and they spray throttle body cleaner into the intake and the problem goes away. If I weren't so lazy, I'd buy a can of the stuff and do it myself.

Good luck.
