the AC smell gone bad!

I noticed that my car smells terrible when the AC is on. It is worse when it is hotter. I was going to ignore it, but after few days I can't stand it! What is wrong with it? Should I take my car to the dealer and get it fixed?

I would just go to pepboys or autozone and buy the filters than deal with the dealer cause their gonna rip you apart with over charge prices.

DO IT THE FILTER YOURSELF. Easy job. Do a search. There are easy instructions. 15 minutes and save 80-100 dollars.

Every once in a while I'll get this smell from the vents, almost like the smell of wet towels. Is this the same thing that's happening to you? I want to get this fixed but have no idea what could be causing it.

I just ordered new filters today. You should get it too immediately if you have that smell. I can't stand that smell anymore!

Don't forget to spray anti-fungal/bacterial spray (any autoparts store should point you in the right direction) into your unit before putting in a new filter. Condensation formed inside your vents and rapidly warmed down (by turning your car off, A/C off, etc.) causes this. I had the same problem in my VW and changing the filter alone does not solve the problem. Another way to work around this as a preventative method is to never keep your air recirc. button on at all times, instead, keep a steady amount of fresh air entering the cabin.
