ABS and VSA Light On?

I have had my 2001 CL-S with Navigation for about 6 months now and it presently has 54,000 miles. The VSA started illuminating intermittently and it is now full-time with the ABS light illuminating as well. A friend is going to help me use a hand scanner to pull codes this week. It drives, shifts and brakes fine. Is this similar to a problem anyone else has had? Would you recommend going to the dealer to investigate it or using an independent shop?

I also bought a rear deck spoiler off a wrecked CL. Are there any marks on the underside of the rear deck to help determine the placement for the bolts?

Thanks for your help,
Anthony

I had a GMC Jimmy with a bad ABS sensor which cost me $250+ to repair. Is this reasonable for the repair to the CL-S? One last question, I need another transponder key, how much will that set me back?

The VSA and ABS lights stay on permanently now along with the exclamation mark/triangle.

Some of the othe posts lead me to believe it may be the transmission, although it shifts and drives fine. I am not a mechanic by any means, it is possible it may be a failure of the trans to regulate the VSA? A mechanic friend of mine did suggest this possibility.

Sounds exactly like what happend to my car. Was diagnosed as a bad rear speed sensor.
Replaced under warranty - remember, that component is part of the powertrain warranty.

Now that you mention it, my side airbag warning indicator will light up briefly on a rare occasion.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will have my dealer check it for me on Monday. Hopefully it is only the sensor.

dont worry bout the "yellow side airbag" light my it flashes when there is just something placed on the pass. seat or if whoever is sitting on that seat moves the light will turn on. thats what the dealer said its just a precaution if u have like a little child there or something it will turn on just to tell you that the person may not be in the airbags path when the airbag goes off, or they may be too light... it has like a weight limit that it reads when somebody sit in the seat and when the limit is changed to a certain min. weight, the light will come on.
>i'm no expert but thats wat i was told , so u may correct me if im wrong, i wont take it personal

At 7500 miles the dealer replaced the VSA Control Unit.
The car drove normal, but the dealer indicated abs and vsa were not working.

The ABS light will not come on during transmission problems. The VSA triangle and light may come on, as well as the CEL, but the ABS light being on indicates something faulty in the ABS system (and therefore, the VSA).

Sounds like a sensor.

Well got my car back from the dealer yesterday. He said "I have never seen so many error codes before". You may need new ABS pump, ECM, may be a short in the wiring harness, but he said basically I do not know. 2 miles from the dealer the lights went out, now they vary in brightness, but stay on. I will either drive it as is, it drives fine or find someone who specializes in code troubleshooting or wiring?

Yea guys, when my "trannie's" went.....(all three of them in a year and a half!), my guage cluster lit up like a christmas tree (abs, exclamation point, vsa). no, for an off subject question, what is a way to get the "SRS" light off? mine has been on for sometime now! it came on after i got my car back from having my body kit put on. anyone have any ideas?

thanks

The dealer said the transmission recall had been performed already and it appears to work just fine. It is interesting that my friends scanner said no codes and the dealers showed numerous errors. Are the dealers scanners more sophisticated than a regular hand scanner? My friend suggests looking into the wheel sensor as some others have suggested.

Your friend using an OBD-II scanner? I don't think that can pull ABS codes. Only CEL codes.

My SRS light came on last week. I took my car into the dealership and the tech said that the fault code was traced to a faulty driver-side seatbelt buckle switch. When the part arrives next week, they'll replace the buckle FOC.

You need a new ABS modulator--my car is in the shop right now for this very thing. 690 for a remanufactured unit from curryacura. Email request to parts@curryacura.com it's the cheapest place to get it.

Thanks for the information. My dealer suggested I may have problems with the ECU or ABS Pump. Is the ABS Modulator the same thing as the ABS pump? I was concerned that they did not know where to start and wanted to replace parts until it went away.

Did you notice any problems with your brakes? My dealer did not seem to know where to start. I do not want to give them $960 and the problem not be fixed. Some other members had problems with wheel sensors causing the same problem. I will check that first and then move onto ABS pumps if need be. Thanks for all the continued help.

Wouldn't you know it, I was driving home last night and both lights went out and are still out? I guess I will not worry about it until they come back on and stay on, which of course they will?

I don't know if they will come back on or not. I was accelerating (mildly) out of a toll booth when mine went. All of a sudden the vsa, abs lights were on and stayed on. I also don't know if the abs pump =modulator BUT I'd hazard a yes to that question. When they go on again just go somewhere and slam on the brakes and see if you skid or the anti-lock works then you'll have your answer. You can get the part from parts@curryacura.com for 690 w/ a refundable core charge of 65 bucks when you return the old one.

When my tranny went up and I got it back from the dealer, that's when I had that problem. So I took it back expresssing my concern about the lights staying on, and they said it was the abs sensor gone bad and they ordered and replaced it for free.
