91 Octane @ the pump, WTF?!

Guys,

Can anyone shed light on this? I have noticed the "downgraded" octanes for about a week now, what is going on? Will there be issues with our "high-performance" automobiles?

The weirdest I've seen is 88.5 @ a Unocal 76 in Santa Clara.

Thanks.

read the manual...it calls for 91 octane. why would there be problems if this meets the standard that the car requires?

The owners manual for our cars says 91 octane or higher. My Acura dealership sends me Tech Tips by E-mail. Last Friday I got one that said Fuel Tips your car uses 91 octane. The tip went on to say how much money per year extra you spend using higher grades.
