Is 76 really the best gas?

I have only used 76 gas since moving to california. Not a drop of anything else. Several other people do this, I notice I have VERY fast 0-60 runs and smooth performance. Maybe my car is just "lucky" but I suspect 76 actually has consistently good quality gas. Anyone else use JUST "76" premium? I checked out www.76.com and they have a good explanation of the "pro-power" additive to their car. Let's not forget their unbeatable partnership with NASCAR, every car in NASCAR has used 76 gas for the past 50 years (yes, I know 76 pays for this, but still). Also, they offer 100 octane racing fuel. I think I am a fan, I ask you all to join me in using nothing but 76.

Tuleman will slightly disagree as he uses Chevron cause the refinery is local to us here in the valley of San Jose, but still, I think I will stick with 76 for good.

Why? There aren't that many Texaco's around here either. You have to admit, 76 has the coolest logo.

I like the Shell logo best.

I used to boycott Texaco along with Exxon (which I still boycott) but Texaco seems to work best now.

My opinion is based on the performance of the respective, evil multinationals' 92 octane gas.

I should probably stick with Chevron, just because our clueless leader is acting like such a jerk, and the other Texas energy companies (Enron, Houston Gas etc.) are jerking it up California's ass.

i hate to break it to you, but a lot of gas stations get their gas from a generic supplier. i have a buddy who owns a few gas stations, one of the being a "Citgo" -- they are pretty big up here, the bought out all the 76's up here. Anyways, any gas station in MN (at least) that is a Citgo has to buy their gas independentally, since the corporation does not drive gas trucks up this way ... wierd shit eh?

Ya, I only fill up at 76's where I have actually SEEN the 76-branded gas tanker fill up the pumps.

The only gas i use is 76, a few others here and there but 95% of the time its 76. I truly believe its the best gas, and remember guys, I have one of the "faster" cars from the factory(maybe its the gas)

Exactly! So do I (Have one of the "faster" cars from the factory). I really think there is a connection. Why did you pick 76 as your gas of choice?

(BTW, I have never put a drop of anything besides 76 premium since I moved here to cali and the car had 3000 miles)

Cali people-
just don't go to ARCO...

pissing in your gas tank will get you better 0-60's than ARCO's so-called 92 octane.

Dude, I would NEVER use Arco, Rotten Robbie, or any other gas like that. But hell, I won't use anything other than 76. I just wish they had 93 octane.

My whole family likes 76 gas the best and we use it the most. However, it's not the only gas we have used in our cars. We also use shell, mobil, texaco, chevron sometimes.

That's funny..

You guys rate your gas stations on the "Quality of the fuel"

I rate the gas stations on the Efficiency of the gas pumps and how FAST they fill the tank up, if the pump has an latch to pump on it's own, etc..

I find that CHEVRON has the WORST pumps In the WORLD!!!! It takes a Million years to pump 15 gallons, and when it get's to the last 20 cents worth it goes in SUPER SUPER SLOW mode. What a PAIN IN THE ASS!

Shell, on the other hand must use Top-notch technology in their gas pump mechanisms. They get to 15 gallons FAST and don't slow down on the last 20 cents like those pussy pumps at chevron.

I dunno. I guess I notice the "Little things"

I don't think we have "76" gas here in Texas, at least I don't recall seeing any stations. I use ONLY the following (in no particular order):

- Mobil
- Exxon
- Texaco
- Shell
- Chevron

Nothing else will do!!!

76 gas stations are the coolest by far. Always nice and neat, really cool logo, and new pumps. Their pumps validate my credit card INSTANTLY!!! I mean, I put the nozzle in the tank, slide the card through, and then I squeeze the handle and INSTANTLY gas is flowing. It's like being in the pit of NASCAR!

Actually, BP owns 76. But, people reacted negetively to the Canadian owned business. So they decided to fool us stupid Americans and change their name from BP to 76 in the US. It's still Canadian owned.

a cousin of mine used to work for Olympian gas...a major distributer...and they sold gas to 76, Chevron, Shell, BP, and a bunch of other. thats why u rarely see actual 76 trcuks or Shell trucks. dont take that list literally, think some actually have their own stuff, but a majority buy the same fuel. only difference is the additives added by each company, whether it be techron, pro-power, etc. pretty much all the same fuel though. although i must say..i stay away from Arco...

I would be the only sunco that's around me is at manassas (25 miles away ) or arlington (13 miles away) from my new house. Trust me if it was close to me I would. Plus what if I run out of gas and there's no sunco I would have to mix w/ a cheaper brand. But Mobil is everywhere.

I've been using Shell, since I've known the guys and have been going there for about 20 years. They always buy high quality gas.

This is not to say that Shell is the only station that has good folks.

When I drove up today (sorry, racing fuel break), I noticed that they said they were now accepting Texaco and Shell cards (heck, I use an AMEX). I just wondered if anybody knew if they were hooked up/hooking up.

Chevron, makes a big deal about their gas being used by all of the US automakers for 100K mile certification (on their web site).
(I was told by a dealer and a smog check place to fill up with Chevron for a smog check.)

I used 76 at one time, but the guys at my only close station refused to break a buck for change -- $0.25 for a phone call (this was before my cell phone) and I had just filled up my car.
When I called the 76 800 # for customer relations, they said they would talk to them. I got a call back and they said they had problems with them, they were very bad dealers. I said, "why don't you dump 'em." The woman just said that I'd have to live with them, that there was nothing that they could do. I didn't use the card for 2 years, and they then cancelled the card with a very nasty letter. (I have perfect credit)

So, if anyone is getting great performance from a 76 station with really cool people in the West Hollywood/Hollywood area, let me know. I'd try it again.

Has anyone on any of the forums ever done a battle of the gas dyno test set (on a newer fuel injected car)?

Anyone, have any fuel cheater stories. Rigged pumps, etc?

It does make a difference

I have been using 76 gas for almost 3 years. The few times I have used other gas stations, I immediately notice a difference. The car after a few minutes will act like it wants to sputter a bit and it runs a bit rough at times. I also notice that the gas doesn't seem to last as long with other gas station gas and I pretty much drive the same distances thought my work week. I prefer to use 76 gas but this is just my observation and past experience.

Yikes, thanks for bumping a 17 year old thread with almost zero relevance in this era.
